I'm the chosen one, apparently

Four or five times in the last few days, while navigating through various threads, I have had screen controlling pop ups telling me I am apparently a lucky winner in some random competition.

I have to close down all my tabs before I re-take control of my internet, and then my phone is unresponsive for a few minutes.

I thought we had left all this nonsense behind.

Think its when you accidentally click on the banner ad at the top of your page when on mobile.

Happened to me a good 4 or 5 times too, well annoying; new forum anyone?

Helps if you report it rather than start a thread with a title that's hardy likely to alert us to a problem. Some detail would be appreciated.

UtB plenty of other problems on them like the battery, was only talking about the positives though well one of the few positives and that you don't get any issues with adverts on here.

This ^^^^ is the one I've just had pop up.
If you click on the option to leave, you end up on the iphone ad, and vice versa.
Painful.

That site has now been added to the banned list with the advert provider. If there are any more then let us know and we can get them added too.

Yep. Same for me too. Post above asks why the thread was started. I ask myself but simply becausr why bother. Nothing gets done. Raised it tons of times. I dont bother now. Its worse than the old site. Rarely bother on my phone now as last time it said the site had infected my phone.

The site was meant to be set up for no adverts but it was obvious that was never the case.

Come on again on my phone now. And straight away it pops up again.

I got it but not on this site. Every time I opened Chrome it started. Restarted phone which took forever, optimising apps, but still same. Consulted son-in law who's pretty clued up on Android phones. He suggested uninstalling Chrome & downloading Firefox. That seems to have stopped it.

Nothing gets done? - Yes it does.
It's worse than the old site? - No it's not.
Rarely bother on my phone now. - Your stats say otherwise.
The site was meant to be set up with no adverts. - No it wasn't.

We have to have the advertising, and if we could get more local adverts on the board then it would be much, much better. DiBraidio deals with the problems when they come in. It's good that some posters let us know when there is a problem, then you get a post like this that helps absolutely no one.

Well said Tony. As I stated in my earlier post I don't think this is anything to do with this site. My son-in law reckons it's a Google thing! Mind you he hates Google and their attempts to take over and infiltrate everything with a passion

Just happened again.

It only happens on this site. I have several tabs open on Chrome and utilise them on a regular basis and it only ever happens on Up the Clarets. It is becoming increasingly unusable.

Just stop using 3rd party Ad suppliers you simpletons!

Tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after that, they will use a different URL. You're going around in circles.

Maybe, rather than call us simpletons, you could suggest an alternative that would help us fund the running of the site.

I downloaded ESET mobile security for Android and have had no problems since. The basic ESET security package is free.

1) Have you looked at becoming an Affiliate?

Do the club currently offer a 'affiliate' service? This essentially means you 'push' people towards the Burnley online store by placing ads on your pages.
Usually, affiliates give around 5-7% per transaction - so someone clicking a link from UTC and buying something for £40, would give you £2/£2.80 for doing not very much.

Local 'Boohoo' offer an affiliate service - http://www.boohoo.com/page/affiliate.html
Toffs - https://www.toffs.com/affiliate-program
Hostgator - https://www.hostgator.com/affiliates
Ebay Partner network -https://partnernetwork.ebay.com/
Amazon - https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/ - Just emphasise to any board users with something along the lines of - "Whenever you purchase something from Amazon - go through this link. It helps us out and costs you nothing!"

Obviously there is a little bit of admin getting it going - but it's a genuine way of earning some ££ to keep the site running. It's worth reading up on.

With the ads provided by external sources, it tends to be PPC (Pay per click) or PPI (Pay per impression).
With affiliate, you'll get a cut when a purchase or sign up is complete, directly from the partner. So some months you could get £2000, the next £20.

Ultimately, you'll cut the 'scam' 'annoying' ads. An affiliate wouldn't want to use those.

2) Another is simply asking for Donations - Just a simple link on the forum, allowing donations of any size. You'll be surprised, but if people feel it's worth it, they may donate the odd bit of change every now and again. Free to set up, easy to manage.

3) Look at constructing a 'e-newsletter'. Ask local companies if interested in placing small ad's in it. You've got a forum with over 3,000 users. Either charge companies to advertise, or ask them to provide a 'quote this code when ordering' type line in their ad, as this will let them know advertising in your e-newsletter was worthwhile as it generated them 'x' number of sales.

I've only just seen your updates on this thread cricketfields, they're all the same url, I've had that one added to the banned list too. It should be gone later today.

Iamaclaret, we've tried affiliate marketing and it doesn't work for us, people click but nobody buys. We're Amazon affiliates but we're not supposed to say that we get a commission when you buy from the amazon links on here, if we do we can get banned from the affiliate program.

We're still working on increasing the local ads too.

Must admit, it had never crossed my mind to use the links from here when ordering from Amazon. I will do in future though.
