I live in Clitheroe and frequent often. It's a cracking venue and as an aside, my Grandma worked there when it was still a working mill.

If you are a real ale lover you will love it. Monday's and Tuesday' they have 'Drink it dry' beers where they put 6 beers on at half price when they are nearing the end of their kegs.

Food is good but, IMO a little overpriced...the Boland Beer Steak Pie is very tasty.

I may be there myself tonight and so if I am I shall wear my C&B shirt. If you see me with my wife, she is disabled' then please do come over and say hi!!!

Bowlands beers have plummeted in quality since they moved.

More is definitely less.

Get yaself to the New Inn. Less pretentious . Far better beer. Live music! What's not to like!?

I also live in Clitheroe and can second what ClaretDiver has said, can be quite busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so can take a few minutes to get served at peak times. 'The Engine' room is quite dramatic and a real show piece, you can also observe Bowland brewery in action via the large class screen.

It is currently being expanded £10 mill development, and food hall opening next week.

Went for the first time last weekend and really enjoyed it. Lots of ale selections and all at a fairly reasonable price (£3.50ish)

Can understand the ten bob millionaires comment but I didn't let it get to me!

Food was tasty, like the decor and layout (huge 360 degree bar.

Added bonus, bumped into Paul Weller! Top bloke.

Had a similar experience many moons back. Used to be regular. Mind you, probably different owners. The hubby and wife hated each other and took it out on the clientele. He finally explained it and turned out to be a lovely bloke.

I once whilst working for a national firm, from a branch based in Burnley visited a customer in Clitheroe, a lady around 50 ish, I suggested she come to our premises in Burnley, to view the plans I was to do for her, she went quiet and a little pale before saying " I've never actually been to Burnley"
She looked genuinely scared, so i enquired as to whether she was new to the area and had maybe been told to avoid the town, "no" she replied "I was born in Clitheroe and have lived here all my life.
what a difference a hill makes, look at them Yorkshire types, dull as ditch water...................

That young guy is fantastic, a real credit to the art of Blues Rock guitar playing. I have seen him
twice before, but last night was yet another leap forward in his incredible development. The bass player
and drummer were different to what I have seen live before, and the keyboard player I remember from King King.
A really nice guy to boot - loved the way he leapt straight off the stage at the end to be with his family.

Will be seeing him again on 30th July in Holmfirth as support for Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

It may be you that I tried to have a word with at the end of the night, but two young lads were
talking to you and never looked like shutting up !

Not just saying it, but the sound was very good last night, well done if that was down to you my

Haha, no - it was my trusty deputy on the sound last night; he's a good engineer. It was my turn to have fun with smoke and lights. I'll pass on your comment to him though, appreciate it. We have a great system down here, makes it better with some real talent like Laurence on stage too.

It depends on what's sh!t you usually drink. I find 3.50 for a decent pint of ale in a great surroundings quite reasonable!

And where might you usually drink? I, for one, really like the setting and the fact they have kept the feel of the old mill as part of the decor. Just a shame my gran never got to see it after she spent many years working on that particular mill.

Dear Claretdiver, I can assure you that I never drink ****. Hen Harrier is indeed a nice ale and I regularly drink it in The Kettledrum, Cliviger, at £2.90 a pint (post price increases). This is as upmarket a place as The Whalley/ Clitheroe circuit(ask Stan). Similar ales are to be had within the £2.60 to £3.00 range in many decent places and I realise that pubs can't knock it out at Wetherspoon prices. I also dislike the trend towards naming keg beers "Craft" and shoving a quid on the price, which seems to be the norm in "pants down" places.

All my relatives that worked in the mills, wanted them pulled down and the oppression destroyed forever. It might be charming to you but not necessarily for those under the cosh of the oppression. People think it's trendy to have stone floors in a pub but my grandad hated it and would only want to go in a pub with carpets.

Lower Buck in Waddington is a nice pub, but it means driving. Also they have Bowland Brewery ales, if that's of interest.

Thanks for the invite, I will take you up on that if you don't mind, as always been interested in sound engineering - especially
how to mic up a drum kit correctly. Because of noise restrictions I am playing on an electronic Yamaha kit now.

Can't say when I will be there next - nothing booked at the moment.

In addition to serving the Bowland range of beers, Holmes Mill also serves ever changing guest beers which for the most part seem to be from northern micro breweries.
I'm not quite so keen on the food. Very well presented for the most part but often lacking quantity and rather greasy. Expect to pay top end prices for pub food.
