There's little in that article really, but I hope he does.

He's certainly one of, if not THE, most naturally gifted players at the club.

That article suggests the complete opposite, not for one second did I get the impression the article matched the headline.

I cannot see him being here in August for one second.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see us loan him out for a loan fee and his wages being covered - a real shame.

I'd love him to stay, and I'd love him to feature.

Resigned to losing him, but want him to stay

The article seems to say he won't leave because he can't.

Realistically who is going to want him given his non-performances in 2017?

he needs to step up and stop believing his own hype. He has been found wanting and am fairly sure SD will have been telling why and what he needs to do, but if its to difficult for him then he needs to move himself off somewhere that he is more comfortable.

Been found wanting? I disagree, I think he can be happy with his performances throughout the season.

then we definitely disagree, but am sure if you tell SD he will start him in every match and keep him on for 90 minuets regardless.

and to be 100% sure you understand what I am saying, he is a player with talent no doubt but it's clearly wasted at Burnley.

If he's happy with his performances then he's easily pleased. He's clearly got quality but he clearly needs to offer more than he has.

What were Defours average ratings for the season on here?

Some strange posts. He obviously has quality, has only shown it in glimpses and I mean glimpses per game. He's had hallf decent games at best, possibly marked up to a decent game by a bit of trickery. Overall he has neither shown willing to be part of the team nor proven he's good enough. It's ok flicking a ball here and there and scoring the odd ok goal, but as even Arsenal fans will tell you with Ozil. He drives them NUTS! More effort, more contribution.

It would help if he actually played mate, he hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip at the Turf.

maybe, just maybe, it's the lack of mobility of the players in front of him that diminish his effectiveness? Or is the commonly-held view that he should run more at defenses, a la Jeff Hendrick, lose the ball, and then the whole team is out of position?

Plenty on here suggesting he needs to offer more - well can someone pinpoint what that is?

Comedy gold. He's not willing to waste away on the bench I hope you mean, despite being the most gifted player in the team. Genuinely no idea what he has to do to prove he has the quality if being obviously our best centre mid isn't good enough.

Bet you're one of these types who would be "chuffed to bits" with us signing Whelan because he "tries hard"

Okay. I'll re-define it. Would you play an attacking minded Messi in defensive midfield?

It's a wavered comparison but the idea is there. He's a weak link. Out of position, not at his best. I get that, but with limited resources. I'm not necessarily criticising the guy. Just needs some more Bloody Oomph! It is a team game. Potentially a good player withing a framework. Given opportunity.

Do you mean he's ruled out with injury far too often or, when he does start, can't wait to come off?

If you can't understand the concept of how players in a system work then I give up! Comedy Gold? I am doing that to you right now.

The GUY has ability but is not using it. He is not fitting into the shape of the team. That is not necessarily his fault, but may have been a long term strategy to build on this season. Football is not just over one season you know SGr?

Its Dyche's job to get Defour working/fitting into our team, sadly I think it's Dyche that has failed on this one not Defour.

So yeah those games against Hull Watford and Sunderland, where he started and was quality and ALSO registered goals and assists, didn't happen then? Not convinced where all this "doesn't fit the system" lark comes from - nothing wrong with him playing in 4-4-2

Here's a fact for you all: Sean Dyche isn't always right.

When playing he's been easily one of our standout players. There's not a lot he can do about getting injured. Some people are equating Dyche keeping him on the bench with Defour putting in poor performances.

Really? It might well be his job to get him to work/fit into our team but the player has got to want to play first.

Watching the games, seeing his body language, and his wanting to come off. Let's put it this way, if any of the players had his supposed injuries, they'd play.

If we played two holding midfielders behind him then he would thrive. We don't, therefore he struggles.
In a 442 both midfielders need to be able to put a tackle in and work hard, as well as getting further up the pitch, he goes missing far too often and is lightweight.

Ben Mee and Michael Keane missed the last part of the season with minor injuries.

Tom Heaton missed a huge match because he was 'unwell'

Dyche's job was to keep us in the Premier League.

He did not fail.

Both Keane & Mee had played every minute of every Premier League game until Mee was forced off at half time against Man U. Our man in the know (bfccrazy) told us that day that Mee had gone for a scan and wouldn't play again. Keane's injury was so minor, it kept him out of the internationals.

My opinion, my eyes plus a bit of info I'd been given. I seriously believe that he is ruled out with injury when he's fit enough to play.

What is your problem with Defour? You clearly have a problem with him. I don't see what hes done wrong to make you slag him at every opportunity, I understand the Jensen thing. He wants to leave because he is unhappy on the bench, hes said it himself, doesn't sound like a man who doesn't want to play.

So Defour ...dosent want to come on....wants to come off....He's always feigning injury?, when did we actually see all this Tomfoolery from Defour, seemed to remember him warming the bench for most of the second half of the season, when he played the first half of the season,I saw we had signed a truly class footballer, and you are putting his situation down to a bad attitude? ...naw you might know a lot what goes on at the Turf, but Defour's situation has passed you by.

If Steven Defour had missed a 6 pointer for feeling 'unwell' there'd be all kinds of nonsense going round.

'He seemed fine enough when he had his picture taken by his missus on instagram'
'He doesn't want to be here'
'He thinks he's better than us'

You said that Defour misses games through injuries you KNOW he'd be able to play through.

Tom Heaton missed one of the biggest games of the season because his tummy was a lickle bit poorly.

No slavver for Heaton though.

Would be good to see what he's like if he got a full pre season under his belt. Pretty sure Dyche mentioned early last season that Wenger had said it can take foreign players a season to get used to the physicality and pace (not sure I believe that myself).

There are obviously a lot of question marks over his fitness levels. A good footballer though.

Bit of a strange comparison.
