Dark times at the Stadium of Light....
Relegated, up for sale, turned down by Aberdeen's Manager and others, unbalanced and overpaid squad, and now the Chief Scout's resigned....
Apparently in talks with a German Consortium...

Apparently they have 35 full time professionals on their books.
I'd take Cattermole off them, that's probably about it.

Its been a disaster waiting to happen for years, to much short term thinking in regards to managers and transfers etc.

Larsson WAS a good player, but he's been around for ages now and I wouldn't be taking him.

Re: Dark times at the Stadium of Light....
Not sure whether I posted it previously on here but Paul Bracewell, who was the assistant manager, resigned a couple of weeks ago after ten years at the club. They really are in a mess.
Re: Dark times at the Stadium of Light....
Kone would be worth a look; he looked good under Big Sam.

They returned to pre-season training yesterday, sans manager or assistant.
Robbie Stockdale took training.

If they did and we played him alongside Long, Long would look that good we could possibly get 20m for him

Re: Dark times at the Stadium of Light....
Incredibly, Chelsea signed Djilobodji, found out he was poor and sold him on to Sunderland for a decent profit. I was so disappointed he wasn't in the team at the Stadium of Light when we went for the league game.claretdom wrote:If they did and we played him alongside Long, Long would look that good we could possibly get 20m for him

Whatmore would be a good signing but not sure where he is up to in his recovery from his injury last season.

Seems an odd appointment to me, should they make it.

I'd have Kone and Larsson too. Larsson is one of those players (like Michael Dawson and Curtis Davies) that I have always wanted to play for Burnley. Would love Larsson even more than I wanted Andrew Driver to join us and that's going some.

I seem to remember Whatmore trying to sell himself certainly to us fans when we played Altrincham a few pre seasons ago.

Re: Dark times at the Stadium of Light....
No takeover at Sunderland - here's today's statement
Recently, we informed supporters that discussions were taking place with parties who had expressed an interest in acquiring ownership of Sunderland AFC.
Subsequently, more detailed talks were held over the last week with one of these groups.
Ellis Short and the board were committed to ascertain if this group was better placed to take the club forward in the right way and to improve it, both on and off the pitch.
A defined timeframe was placed on discussions to ensure that the club could move forward quickly and decisively with its plans for the new season should they not come to fruition.
We have concluded these talks and have determined that this proposed sale would not be in the best interests of Sunderland AFC.
Ellis Short will continue his commitment to the club, both financially and personally, moving forward.
We would like to thank our supporters for their patience during what we know has been a period of uncertainty and frustration for them.
Preston North End have granted us permission to speak with Simon Grayson regarding the manager’s position.

Re: Dark times at the Stadium of Light....
You've literally got no sense of humor have you?
Ok look at it from a serious point of view just for you.
Another PL club overspends and racks up stupid amounts of debt that it can't sustain/afford/pay off.
If it struggles it raises the issue of clubs being run well beyond their means.
That better for you Mr Serious Pants?

Not particularly, I was thinking of the fun I get from laughing at a Sunderland fan I know.
I have noticed you're overly serious about things though when it comes to football.

No I'd do it to his face, he's actually a personal friend, I do have those too.
I can do it through fb if it would keep you happy, he is also on that friends list.
I'd also like to point out you mentioned fb this time, not me, so you can't complain about it being raised in this chat.

Re: Dark times at the Stadium of Light....
One of my best mates is a Sunderland fan. I've got family who are Sunderland fans. They're proper football fans of a proper football club.
Yeah, I had a good laugh when we tubbed them at the Turf, in the same way they did when they beat us 2-0 up there.
I don't think we'd ever gloat about either of our clubs being absolutely f*cked, and certainly not saying that a takeover collapse is excellent news.

Likewise - I've known him for around 20 years. When we beat them 4-1 last season (he was in the cricket field end) I wasn't seeing him after the game, but I got a text which just read: "Don't think there's a need to mention today's game." I did, of course. I'm forgiven, I think.UpTheBeehole wrote:One of my best mates is a Sunderland fan

My mate was delighted they stayed up under Allardyce, but as soon as he went and Moyes came in he knew the game was up. I suspect a lot of Sunderland fans knew from the off that they'd be relegated.ClaretTony wrote:Likewise - I've known him for around 20 years. The same was the case with my Villa mate. He'd put big money on them going down the summer before they did. Sometimes a club is just rotten and it can be seen quite clearly.
Thankfully we're not in that situation, and haven't been for some time.

My mate loathes Moyes - worst manager they've had since Lawrie McMenemy he told me. Better appointment than some recent managers there. Might just be the right man.
