Has anyone ever visited ? Just looking for any recommendations or things to avoid.

Going for just shy of 3 weeks. Flying into Jakarta then over to visit Bali.

I have been going there for last 30 years & twice already this year. It can be very cheap (food & accomodation) in Kuta/Legian area or expensive in Nuda Dua or Seminyak.
Haggle for everything as there are few fixed price shops. Dont drink the water or buy Sate sticks off the beach (could be dog).
Be sure to visit the Water Bomb Park & get there early. Massages arevery cheap 2 hrs for tenner. I you can find a Burnley copy shirt off the street you are doing brill, ive never seen one!

Like I say I've been, I have the stamp in an old passport but can't remember a single thing about it.

Went to Indonesia over 10 years ago, Java and Bali, it might have changed a bit since but I hope not.

Many highlights. Visited Krakatoa and Bromo volcanoes in Java and saw a fire dance in Bali. This old bod who looked about a hundred danced on hot coals, amazing stuff.

Hope you have an experience to remember, I'm sure you will.

I saw an article regarding the dog meat ! Not sure where we are going to initially be based in Bali as we have a tenancy do make decisions on a whim

Been to Kuta and Legian......they cremate bodies on the beach which is a bit offputting.
A trip to see the rice fields up in the moutains is interesting.I stayed in the Bali Mandira hotel in Kuta which I can highly reccommend.
Local beer is not bad...it is called Bintang .Lots of Aussies go there for the surfing.

Their is a claret on here living in bali. Baliclaret I think he's called, 'Maybe he will see this and help.

Forgot to mention, i used to work in Jakarta. Its a very busy city traffic wise! Used to take our driver 2 hours to get us to the office in the morning which was only 7 miles away. Be warned. For good cheap shopping, try the markets in Block M. Huge. Get a headmassage while you are there, an hour should cost you a fiver or so.
At he end of the day its just a big city.

Hi C and B 94. Be pleased to give you some recommendations on Bali, but it may help to know if you are with a young or older family, or with friends and what your interests are. Bali has plenty of outdoor activities- surfing, rafting, water sports, diving etc where I have contacts. You may prefer the cultural hindu sites and ceremonies or simply the beaches and night life.
Hope you are spending most of the time in Bali and not Jakarta. The Capital has little to offer the tourist and traffic is horrendous, as said.
Suggest you arrive and settle in and then consider touring round the island using a driver and stay possibly at places like Ubud, Lovina or Candidesa. Accommodation and eating can be as cheap or as expensive as you like. Again I can recommend some places.
If you are in the south where the airport is I am happy to meet up and give you some tips. For example, there are pedestrian crossings but the Balinese have no idea what they are for !
I haven't seen a copy Burnley shirt either, but not surprising when most Indonesians can only name Liverpool, United, City and Chelsea as PL clubs. I am working on it...slowly.

I wasn't a fan of Jakarta. Bits were decent but overall it's a big city with a lot of traffic.

A bit the opposite direction to Bali but I spent a few nights on the edge of the jungle in Bukit Lawang http://www.bukitlawang.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and that was great.
