I know. Just thought it was funny to smudge the comment on the drug dealer (alleged) with the theme of the thread

Not that you questioned it but I want to point out that energy conversion is much more efficient in power stations.

You a milkfloat enthusiast or is that sarcasm? You do know that there are other options in the electric car sector?

Explosively quick.
The Sinclair C5 fared no better.
The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive is tickling my fancy. The £20K price tag is not, however.

I didn't notice my mistake until you posted!
I want to have a look at the BMW i5 when it comes out but i think it's going to be priced nearer the i7 than the i3.

They are prices too high to have any meaningful impact on the market.
For me its getting to work at the least possible cost to me. If one day its an electric car so be it, until then it'll be a diesel mass polluter.
Or not as suggested here:

I would love to buy a Tesla. If bought before the end of the month, you will get unlimited charges for free. If not you would get the first 1000 miles a year. Problem is, they require a £12k deposit!

That deposit is very nearly what I paid for my "new" Civic further up the thread...! I like Tesla's too, but they really need to be a little more affordable and have a greater range. I wouldn't be able to do a 500+ mile round trip from home to Burnley on one fill up like I can with my diesel Civic.

To be fair, the Tesla does approx 350 miles on a full charge. That's not bad compared to it's rivals.
Anyone seen this? It's a Polestar 1 coupe unveiled yesterday. It is a luxury sub-brand created by Volvo. The 5 door version is meant to be the biggest rival so far to Tesla.

And that's only if a current Tesla owner refers you.
The model 3 comes to the UK in 2018 I think, definitely worth a look at the price.

Yes it is, BUT it shows that the super car companies are taking it all seriously.
Also, some of their technological advances can trickle down the chain, like it does from F1.
ABS, Power Steering and Turbos all came from F1.

Turbo's are not from F1 - Circa 1905.
Active suspension as employed by Renault was banned because it was too effective. Same as most things not invented by Ferrari
Battery technology is the sticking point here.

UPS uses a load of electric vans in London. The issue causing difficulties in the deployment is the power capabilities of the depot, trying to charge all of the vehicles together was causing issues in the power grid in the area.

Non of them came from F1, The French had tubos on fighters in WW1, ABS on planes in the early 50s too, though there were primitive versions much earlier, power steering 19th century.

Do they have a theoretical maximum speed at which they can charge it? I can fill up a petrol car in two minutes. Electric cars at present are nowhere near that time, but will that get down to two minutes or somewhere near, as the technology improves?

I think they've got some down to a few hours.
Eventually I suspect charging points will also change and that could be due to how phones are charged.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the same principle of a charging plate in the ground and the car just parks on top of it and it charges up with no cables.

Induction charging I think it’s called. That’s got to be the future I’d imagine, but less efficient as energy is lost as it transfers from the ground to the battery.
Edit - there are different speeds of charging so for example a supermarket may have rapid charge points which provide a decent charge in an hour whereas domestic chargers will be utilised over night.

I actually get what Sid is saying. He's referring to the development and perfection of the technologies discussed. Without F1, these technologies wouldn't be as advanced or efficient as they currently are. KERS is the same, without F1 we wouldn't have made the rapid developments in the KERS technology that is now presenting in hybrid cars.

Same with electric braking, electric motors over all and power recovery that's being created for the super cars.
A lot of this stuff is filtered down from the racing cars of various types.

Williams did a lot of stuff with Williams Hybrid Power, don't think they ended up using most of the tech in F1 and sold the company to GKN after it was starting to be used in buses.

It would have been bloody hilarious if one of the cyclists was hit in the head by one of the doors...
I've looked at the Tesla's in the INTU centre in MK and they do look very nice - the Model X was supremely comfortable to sit in.

"California regulators are embracing a General Motors recommendation that would help makers of self-driving cars avoid paying for accidents and other trouble, raising concerns that the proposal will put an unfair burden on vehicle owners.
If adopted, the regulations drafted by the California Department of Motor Vehicles would protect these carmakers from lawsuits in cases where vehicles haven't been maintained according to manufacturer specifications."
Interesting proposal, people like to keep costs down on vehicle maintanence as it is with normal cars.

Fisker claims to be working on a solid-state battery, which will cost a third the price of current offerings, be more efficient - range of 500 miles and will only take 1 minute to charge...
