Vastly experienced Premier League player. Not a prolific striker but I expect we know that :) He'll be a useful addition, I'm sure.

Quite an interesting link on Burnley's twitter feed, regarding the exhaustive process of a modern day medical.

I was critical of this transfer a few days ago, but welcome Jon, more than happy for you to prove me wrong.

First line of defence if we throw him up top. We know how successful that sort of work rate can be.

Welcome to o'Burnley.

I feel disloyal saying it but...an upgrade on Ashley. Good if uninspiring business.

I'd be prepared to let Andre run his contract down rather than get stiffed on the likes of Assomobalonga. Andre can't afford to miss a season at this stage of his career so would be playing for his next contract, albeit elsewhere.

Very interesting to see that side of things. I always pictured a medical as basically a player running on a treadmill

Very happy with this signing and with Hendrick's not guilty verdict feels like we've signed two Irish internationals today. If we all agree how important a Dyche preseason is then how good are JBG, Defour, Hendrick,Brady and Westwood going to be come August 12 never mind Taylor and Walters!

Solid signing. Good experience, adding depth and flexibility to the squad / starting XI.

Now time to release the purse strings and bring in some players that will provide that bit extra to what we have.

I knew it was more extensive than that but it does show just how thorough it is - not sure I could be still for two hours having an MRI scan. I had one of my own scans five years ago - a CT scan - but that was nothing like that sort of time.

The medical video is very interesting. Staying 1-2 hours in the MRI machine though seems horrible.

I don't think it was quite like that when we signed Joe Gallagher in the 1980s.

At the end of the day, footballers are very expensive and you have to ensure everything is in order. It's like the doc said, you wouldn't buy an expensive car without looking under the bonnet.

I had a MRI scan a few months ago for my ankle. It wasn't two hours but it was probably over an hour.

The machine makes a right old racket.

For the life of me I can't remember how long the CT took. All I know is they'd made me drink loads before I had it and I was desperate for the toilet while having to keep still.

I've just been messaged this by my Stoke supporting friend,

"You've got yourself a right player in Walters. 3 million is an absolute bargain too".

I'm very happy with this piece of business indeed. Welcome to Burnley Jon!

It might be an Irish thing - Jimmy Mac was always so deliberate with his. Jimmy was once signing something for me but got his own pen out of his pocket. I asked him if he always used his own pen and he said he did because it was the only pen he'd ever come across that could spell McIlroy.

I had a ct scan 2 weeks ago, you drink some crap over about an hour then the scan is about 5 mins, including the dye which is put in via iv.

It was crap - they told me to drink an amount of water before I got there and then they gave me the crap. The scan was nothing like an MRI but it was considerably more than 5 mins for me.

Mine was for my cancer and it was for my whole upper body, maybe a bit more than five minutes but no more than 15.

We have been desperately short of competition for our strikers. I think he might surprise us on how many goals he will get. He will be better than Sam and Barnes for goals to attempt ratio, maybe even Andre who's real strength is playing off the shoulder of an opponent and using his pace. I think for half chances in the box he could be the best of the four. Ideal striker away from home

The Club have posted a very interesting clip, which shows the in-depth nature of the medical undertaken on a player..

It's been linked on another thread but some may have missed it. Club Doctor, Simon Morris takes us through the whole process with Jonathan Walters prior to his signing earlier today. I've known the good Doctor for over 30 years, and he's a top bloke... :)

As I posted on the other thread, three mil is (at the moment) completely f**k all to us, so it's worth
dragging this guy in for his experience and could be a stroke of genius.

Well done the board/SD.

Genuine question.

Does anyone else think this was an easier deal to make with the new set up at Gawthorpe?

He's come from an established PL club with modern facilities and he's joining a club that wants to become established and also has modern facilities.

He's a fit and strong chap. Not necessarily the most exciting player you're going to see but he knows the game and isn't afraid to get stuck in. Someone further up mentioned defending from the front, something I think Walters will do well.

But i don't see him as a replacement for George Boyd, who I wish was still at BFC.

No. He's an old pro winding down his career looking for the best and longest deal he can get. I'm sure the training facilities will be a draw for certain players we look to bring in but this is def not one of them

Seen an awful lot of enthusiasm for what seems a very meh signing to me so with that in mind what do people see as the role Walters will fulfil?

Will he replace Boyd in a 4-4-2' do you expect him to be starting ahead of Vokes and Barnes, will he partner one of them or is he just a squad man and third or fourth choice striker?

I think in Barnes and Vokes we have two very hard working players with fantastic attitudes and team ethic but who are not quite up to being a first choice premier league striker. My concern is that Walters is exactly the same and we end up with three great third choice strikers good for the bench but lacking in real quality up top if Dyche perseveres with his favoured 4-4-2

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Stoke favourite Walters

Its a squad game nowadays although we dont seem to use it as much. This I believe is down to SDs belief that by changing players it will affect the framework due to the bench players not being of same ability. I hope this is the next stage in our transition that we are strengthening not just the first 11 but the first 18.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Stoke favourite Walters

Posted: Fri Jul 07, 2017 10:29 pm
by Cleveleys_claret
I think he is like for like for Boyd. Later on in games we will be able to bring off a striker for a midfielder to strangle the game with Walters able to play off the lone man up front whilst also carrying out midfield duties. This is how he is different to our other strikers. Because of his adaptability it probably saves having to splash out on another position. Hopefully money saved means we can look at players which will strengthen another area which may cost a little more

At that age one injury away from retirement, a very short term solution for a long-term problem suggesting we haven't got many cards up our sleeves
