Interesting to see that they haven't started pre-season training yet !

Are we early, or are they late ?

He's just signed a new 5 yr deal so at a guess a sell on would be void.

The deal we had for Trippier on the face of it would seem quite the opposite to having add ons etc, Trips had a relatively small release clause allowing to move on pretty quickly.

Surely the Question is did Shef Utd have a sell on clause - should help them through the summer window

Oh no Im going to be in such sht now.
My story starts with my wife having gone out on grandchildren siting for a few hours tonight so I though I could chill out get a drink and sit in our back garden. I was pouring a glass of Rioja when saw the news about Walker going to Manchester City for £50 million, was so stunned poured more than a glass full all over the conservatory carpet. But how the fck can he be worth £50 million if Tripper was £3million and keane £30million.
Now on hands and knees cleaning with vanish.

Trippier had clause in his contract.

Walker is first choice right back for England, was first choice for Spurs and vastly more experienced than both Trippier and Keane.

They can become void after the end of the first contract.

Surely any club that's agrees to buy a player with a sell on fee could just offer the player a new contract the day after signing them?

Salt, salt and more salt. Sucks it all up.

Just don't vacuum it up, otherwise it'll solidify in your cleaner!

They can't get round it like that.

Evening Standard reports that Spurs are in for Ricardo Pereira, FC Porto. £22 million asking. Pochettino wants "another right back to provide competition for Trippier."

Great for Trips status - bought for £3.5 million (?), signs a new 5 year contract - the guy he is replacing is sold for £50 million - and his "competition" for right back is bought for £22 million.

BTW: No add-ons when buying club meets the release clause. And, if there were add-ons, these can be limited to on-sale within a fixed period, so dealing with the "early new contract" scenario.

Generally taken to be the original life of the first contract

Can you imagine someone from the future telling you that a player on that Wembley pitch will have a transfer value of over £50m. You couldn't guess who it was and you would've thought he was mad.

"Is it Jay Rodriguez?"

"No, he's only worth £12m"

" :o "

So unless Trippier signed a two year deal with Spurs any clause we put it would presumably still be active?

Not so sure of that at all. We certainly picked up money for Jay Rod on appearances during his second Southampton contract. And I believe we get something now on his West Brom transfer.

Would be absurd if any sell-on clause is only relevant to the player's initial contract with their new club, and expires upon contract renewal. It would defeat the object entirely. Where has this happened before?

I remember us getting money when Cardiff sold Alan Lee to Ipswich some six years after we'd sold him to Rotherham.

It's not always the case, it's all part of the negotiation. 10% of the sell-on profit in perpetuity or 15% but only applying to the first contract, etc.

Contracts are much more complicated nowadays, both clubs are pushing back trying to get the best deal.

People getting confused between contracts here. There are 2 separate contracts involved.

One is a contract between the selling club and the buying club. This will state all the ins and outs of the transfer, including when payments are due, add ons, sell ons etc.

The other is a contract between the player and his new club. This covers "personal terms" - length of deal, wages, signing on fee, bonuses etc. The 2 contracts are independent from each other.

That he has signed a new deal at Spurs will make no difference to any add ons we might have negotiated at the time of the transfer.
