What is your favourite car?

Post by Pstotto » Sun Jul 16, 2017 6:53 pm

... Of course there are hundreds of fantastic cars, but one of my favourites is the Fiat 130 Coupe, designed by Pininfarina. Fantastic clean lines and perhaps the ultimate box design:

AC Cobra.
From the very first time I watched The Gumball Rally as a kid in the 80's it became my favourite car and its remained at the top of the list.
If you're a car person its worth a watch and they recently found the car used in the film hidden away in a barn find.

Over time I've seen a few genuine ones and of course the fact one did 185mph on the M1 back before there was an upper speed limit on the motorways and when race teams used the motorways for testing.
The highest recorded speed on British roads means this car is the coolest car for me and my favourite.
Its been rumoured for years that the 185mph speed is one of the reasons for a 70mph speed limit on UK motorways.

Favourite car. Triumph dolomite sprint. It had acceleration that left the Capris standing at the traffic lights and an overdrive switch
on the gear stick that was like a rocket thrust when you came down gear. (Sorry I'm not a techie!)

Or is it the vehicle that proceeded the series and was bought out by Land Rover?

Good choice Sir! A few mates have recently bought Maser Strads and really like them; they go very well and sound pretty awesome too. I'm doing an 11 day Spanish road trip with 14 other Masers in September, it should be great fun! :)

If you look at the last Land Rover and then at the pic of one of the first (I presume,) the oldest one looks like a more advanced design. it looks like it's developed backwards not forwards as an object. I bet the original designer would be furious, same with the Range Rover after Beckham has messed with it.

2005 Rover 75 4.6 V8... Old boy's car with a Ford Mustang engine..twin exhaust & 2 subtle V8 badges below the side repeaters is the only clue..

Less than 800 made in either MG-ZT or Rover V8 format.. 0-60 in 6.2 seconds..

A future Classic car, my friends ... :D

Where do you even start with a question like this?!

Money no object it would have to be a Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 1.

Something that I could afford to run and maintain now would be a W204 (facelift) C63 AMG Estate.

BMW 118d 3 Door 2007 112000miles, it's what I have at the moment and cars are just a means of getting from A to B.

IF money was no object and really wanted to get an extension for my nether region then I would probably go for a Range Rover.

Indeed, it is an ex mod air portable series 2. I had a series 3 as my first car. Dream car is a bobtail range rover classic v8, which I bought for myself four weeks ago in the best colour, bright orange  I'd have a bowler wildcat given to me though.

My uncle recently did the Mille Miglia in an AC Aceca, and they're glorious looking cars.

Image

I had a Mini Cooper up until last summer, which had been tuned and upgraded in almost every sense by the previous owner. I used to do 70/80 miles a day in it and every second was joyous, apart from the last 20 or so when I came off a greasy moorland road and ended up sliding into a dry stone wall.

Gutted doesn't come close.

I really want to slap anyone who is in the fortunate position to able to afford one and then buy it in any other colour.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one; originally yellow was the favoured colour for Ferrari, the red came about because that was the Italian racing colour. The Brits had green, the French had blue (hence most old Bugattis are light blue), the Germans had silver (hence the silver arrows) and the Italians had red. Ferrari sports cars suit red and yellow best and the GTs suit darker colours.

Our holiday coach was followed by a lime green Stratos around the Bay of Naples windy roads in the mid-70's. It looked like a futuristic tank and almost square from above.
