Bill Shankly in top left corner.

Shanks was the only clue I found - I wouldn't have got it otherwise. Correct with PNE.

We didn't buy many players back then. I've no idea who any of them are but for Shankly.

Great pic. The guy next to Shanks would surely have won the "Widest lapels -of-the-year" Competition.

Surely third from the right on the front row is our very own legend Bob Kelly. Think he finished his career at PNE.

He did play for Preston but then went to Carlisle. He was 40 when he left PNE.

Just googled it. Left PNE in 1934 (before Carlisle 34-36), Shankly arrived in 1933. So this must be a photo from the 33/34 season.

It was given as 34/35 but with both of them on the pic it must be 33/34.

How about those plus-fours, then? (Top right - next to Bobby Charlton)

...I know, I know...!

Just checked the 1938 Cup Final line-up in which Shankly played for Preston and they had 7 Scottish players in the starting 11.

Michael Keane must have a fake birth certificate he's on the back row next to Bobby Charlton

Guess it could still be the start of the 34/35 season. Depends when in 1934 that Kelly left for Carlisle l.

Gareth Bale has had a long career!
Bottom row second in on the right.

A very interesting thread, some excellent detection work by Beamish, CT and Martin, your knowledge of all things football is amazing. Bill Shankly never really changed I guess, we'll never see another like him.

WHAT DAPPY DRESSERS

Love the suit on the guy at the right hand end, I think I can see a few 'plus 4's' trousers and the lapels on the second guy from the left will have him airborne.

A few of our current team need to take some lesson in how to dress smart!
