Hadn't given it any thought. But now that you bring it up, National league north side in building fitness friendly. For what it's worth it looks like Rovers might make a half decent fist of third division football, but I doubt there'll be anywhere near the promotion places, which just means another year of building up the debts. This long drawn out death really does make for good viewing. It's like when your favourite TV show keeps getting renewed for another season.

Jon Parkin plays for York. Imagine the size of him now.
I didn't realise how far they'd dropped in non-league.

I seem to remember us beating them, at their place, four nil at an absolute canter in the League Cup four years ago. You know? An actual competitive fixture; not a friendly.
I can't seem to remember any of our fans going on about it, let alone gloating about it on a rival team's message board.

Yeah beating the likes of Liverpool in a competitive Premier League fixture is not a scratch on the achievement of beating York City in a friendly.
It could make it on your 2017/2018 season highlight DVD.

They should've put him in goal, he might have kept it to 0-4.

It looks like you could well walk away with that league but your not playing in the conference north not yet anyway, you won't be beating anyone in the 3rd division 8-0 so I wouldn't get carried away by going on another local teams forum gloating just yet.

I thought that implicit from the match being in the League Cup, but yes.
I didn't mention it for fear of being accused of pleonasm.

So I mentioned it - and yes, it is pretty obvious that they must have been a league club given the competition we played them in. One thing for certain, we won't be playing them in the League Cup for some time again. They really have fallen from grace.

Also last night the Burton relegation hero's Marvin Sordell and Michael Kightly got on the scoresheet.
1 still plays for CHAMPIONSHIP Burton, while the other plays for League 1 outfit SOUTHEND, who will be rivaling Rovers for promotion this coming season.
League 1 ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

You should have a good season Saxo, you can always live in hope that we meet again the season after, football knocks you down but it can raise you up again.
Some time until you get a squad like ours but hope and belief go a long way.

Just think its only 20ish years ago we were going into games with York as underdogs.
To beat any team 8-0 is an achievement at any time, but York at the moment are as close as it gets to being the exception that proves the rule.

If pre season is anything to go by then Juke would have been prolific for us. It means very little except fitness. The last two games before the season normally show you more.

They can not have learnt a great deal from that. A more even balanced opposition would have been more beneficial to the Manager to see how certain plates perform.

Winning 8-0 is obviously better than not winning 8-0 but it's an early pre-season friendly. Good for the confidence but as someone said above TM won't have learnt much about the side. One swallow does not a summer make.

Saxo, you can only play what is put in front of you, main thing is you did not lose
It at least starts to make you think you may not be fighting relegation again this coming season, which I am sure is the wish of every BRFC fan. Build steady and then look in a few years to promotion to the Championship.

8-0 is a great performance in any game, let alone away. have you ever won by that margin? You certainly won't under dyche!

Nice to see Rovers scoring goals, pity they couldn't score enough last season....
THAT'S WHY THEY WERE RELEGATED ON GOAL DIFFERENCE.

That collection of own goals(plus the one he scored for Brighton, on his return) by Duffy were what did for them GD wise last year.
We should give him a big cheer when his name is read out on the Turf this season.

Didn't we beat Penrith 9-0 in the FA cup in the '80s? If only the internet had existed then I would have spent the next 24 hours frantically posting on B'stards-Mad.
