I'm assuming the "Burnley youngster" was John Cofie?

If darikwa goes and Bardsley comes in, who will be first choice RB???
Really good competition for places now.

As I said on the other thread; nuts and bolts signing(if true). Not exciting, but a good fit.

Experienced with over 200 Premier League games, something not many of our players have. Cheap, nuts and bolts as you say providing good cover.

Not for me this one just not feeling it. Whenever iv seen him play in the past year or two he's very thuggish in his style of play.

Like Walters - it's a low risk signing. Relatively low cost. Bags of premier league experience and good cover. Hopefully adds some leadership too.

Classic no holds barred full back who can bomb forward - very much in the traditional Burnley mould. I like having a thug or two in defence. Burnley defenders have always been able to handle themselves during our successful periods.

Yes it is and if being a Stoke reject is not quite a definite prerequisite to signimg for Burnley it is definitely a clear advantage.
A few more unwanted Stoke players and I would almost be prepared to go on record stating the next 7 years in the top flight is all but guaranteed

Reasonable, sensible signing.
I imagine the closer we get to the end of August, the higher the profile of players we're linked to will be.

Can see him being close to No1 choice and so providing competition in another position
However CH is a big problem. Got a feel of how start of season might map out with both Mee & Tarks coming off yesterday. Just takes a sending off or injury in opening fixtures to leave us with bare bones. We cannot afford a bad start-last year our win v Liverpool did great things for confidence however some of our wins were established through the pairing of Mee & Keane. Wasn't it 10 clean sheets-amazing for a team towards base of table. At least. if we buy Bardsley it leaves us with money to spend with CH being No1 priority. How about Liam Moore of Reading-I thought he was on our radar recently-definitely one for the future who is getting his career back on track and I believe 23 years old

His legs are gone, I don't care how many PL games he's played, the same nonsense was said about Steven Reid.

I get the impression that should we sign Barcelona's first 11 certain people on this board would find something to moan about.

The same nonsense was spouted when we signed Reid, Juke, Sordell to spearhead a PL survival season.

I was one of those pleased with the signing of Reid, and while it didn't quite work on the pitch I still do not regret us signing him. What we never see is what these players bring to the camp off the field as much as on it. Same for Sordell to a lesser degree, it didn't work out but the idea was right. Sordell at Spurs was really the only glimpse of what Sordell could have brought to the team.
I think it extremely unlikely that Bardsley's legs have gone he was quite late breaking through at the highest level and so I'd expect him to have a good couple of years left in him.

Its worth signing him just to see Abc and KRBFC have their season long whinges about it.

Reid was only signed for the dressing room. In the "legs gone" category Matt Taylor was up there, he was never going to meet the physical demands of the framework.

If you ask now, Dyche will tell you that Reid was a very important signing and he'll say the same about Robinson.
Matt Taylor was quite different. He was in the team right from the start but then suffered that achilles injury that kept him out for months. He was straight back in though as soon as he was fit in the Premier League. I was surprised he was hardly used in the following promotion season but by then we had George Boyd and Scott Arfield able to play regularly in those positions (Boyd hadn't been here when Taylor signed and Arfield was covering for Marney when Taylor came back). I still think, but for the achilles injury, he would have been a very influential signing for us. He played every single game for Northampton last season apart from when he served a suspension.

You were happy with Reid, kind of says it all. Explains why were apart in expectation, you settle for anything, I want us to become the best we can.

Ignoring your pathetic attempt to either get a rise or your superiority complex (delete as appropriate). Having experience in any dressing room is vital, Reid was a player who had been around top players for a lot of years, and so was not easily phased.... just what we needed in the dressing room at the time. I can understand your point of view games of football manager don't seem to factor things like that in.

Doesn't make my opinion wrong though, I think most would agree that Reid was absolute pants. Why cant we sign another Charlie Taylor for right back? Young, some experience in a league like the Championship, high potential and a realistic sell of value. Taylor is serious competition for my POTY Ward, Bardsley will never take Lowton's spot.

So what exactly did the experience of Reid bring? Apart from the horrendous drubbing at West Brom and a miserable relegation?

I think this would be a decent signing. Lowton was excellent last season but Bardsley will add good competition for that place. He has plenty of top flight experience and only turned 32 last month so isn't exactly ancient! It's normal to question some signings but I worry far less about our choice of defenders under Dyche. Whoever is in the back 5, we won't be conceding too many goals.

I think you're wrong there.
Everyone wants the club to be the best it can be.
Difference is some people can see the gradual improvements and are willing to show patience to see the club get there.
Others want the club to get there yesterday and don't want gradual improvements, they want it all now!
They don't care about the club having strong foundations, they'll accept foundations made of playing cards if it means the club reaches the top quicker.
Incase you're not sure, you fall into the latter.

Well his experience counted for nothing, his lack of footballing ability certainly gave us less chance of gaining points. The only thing Reid did here was highlight what happens when you fail in the transfer market in the PL. Its all well and good being positive all the time but it just makes you a fake person because it simply isn't possible. You're pretending to be happy with Bardsley, if Lowton gets injured for the season, then what? We have another Steven Reid in the team and were playing 10 v 11 every week, like last time.

The PL is an unforgiving place, all the progress under Dyche can crash and burn very quickly. If we want to progress then we need to survive, I don't believe signing over the hill players like Bardsley is the way to survive (look at Sunderland, Villa). Look at the bottom half of the Championship from last year, QPR, Wolves, Villa full of sides who have been in the PL in recent years. Football can change quickly.

A nice analogy, Vegas. I'm still hoping for the KEF surround sound to accompany the mid-range 46".

It's a shame it's not worked out for Tendy, I really thought he would be good for us, he hasn't progressed for whatever reason.
Beardsley doesn't excite, but he does bring experience, and as a back up to Lowts would be good, but I can't see anyway he will take his spot.
SD has that knack of getting the best out of players, just like Cloughy, we could have a really good season if the players we've brought in improve.

Yet in post #27 you presume to know the inner workings of the Burnley dressing room to the point that a player signed as a first team squad member was actually really just what our dressing room needed and was therefore worth the £000's we paid because of that.
This dressing room cheerleader stuff was made up well into the season when it was obvious hes was a bad signing to deflect the criticism of Dyche as it is to much for the happy clapper snowflakes to cope with

Yup and you can find former PL clubs even lower, right down into league 2.
No need to preach to me, I'm well aware.
On what basis have you decided Bardsley is over the hill?
I'm assuming you've watched him play quite a lot to reach that conclusion?
Sunderland's problem is they had a manager who's confidence is shot to pieces, no long term plans in place, an owner looking to sell so doesn't want to invest etc.
You'll ignore all the mitigating circumstances though to suit your argument.
Villa was also another accident waiting to happen when they finally went down and they're having a restructure under Bruce and he's injecting experience into the squad to help push them up the table.
You're absolutely desperate to see the negative in everything, I wouldn't even be surprised if you'd be secretly happy if we were relegated at the end of the season so you could bang your drum even more.
We need a better option at right back over Darikwa, so we're looking around.
We haven't even signed Bardsley and you're already frothing at the mouth and no doubt beating yourself into a frenzy about it...
You're an expert at recommending players out of our reach so I'm surprised you didn't link Kyle Walker or Danilo...
