Changing Kit.

Post by Lord Beamish » Mon Jul 31, 2017 12:08 pm

I was thinking on change strips on another thread and remembered a question that I have never had answered.
A lot of Teams have changed the colour of their kits at some time in their history; usually quite a while ago. Leeds and Tranmere did it to all white to emulate the All Conquering Real Madrid side of the '50s/'60s. We did it over a hundred years ago to emulate Aston Villa.

Just recently I've noticed that Luton Town have changed their White Shirts, and Dark Blue Shorts to Orange Shirts and Lighter Blue Shorts.

Does anyone know why this is?

Also, if you could change our Home Kit colours, and you were desirous of doing so,
what would you change them to?

I'm sure Luton had orange shirts at some point in the 90s and switched to white.

Luton wore orange throughout the 70s too. Don't know why. Apparently the fans recently voted to have their kit in orange, not white.

Luton's shirt should be white, like a Luton van.

There used to be a mannekin in a shop window on Plumb street wearing the old green and black strip, seem to remember it was in the late 40's

League 2 new boys Forest Green had always worn black&white stripes, black shorts and red socks, until 5 yrs ago when owner and green energy tycoon Dale Vince changed them to Luminous Green and Black hoops

I have a recurring dream (nightmare?) that we once turned out in black and gold stripes. It was at Reading I think and we lost 5-0. All of those things can't be true surely, it has to be a nightmare dosen't it?

We lost 3-0 at Reading the season we had this as away kit:

Don't know if we wore it that game, but we shipped a load of goals that season!

Wasn't it Eric Morecambe (he was a director there) who first suggested they change their kit to orange and blue?

I think he found the white to boring.

I remember Luton in the days of the Futcher twins having a decent Orange shirt with a black and white stripe down the left hand side. It was, I suppose, but years ahead of its time - the design, at least,as I imagine that the material would not have been too pleasant.

Prior to that, not that I can remember, they had worn white with black shorts. I guess they flip back and for every now and then. I imagine that they prefer Orange as it reminds them of when they were good.

Likewise, Brighton get promoted quite a lot (or at least don't go down) when wearing blue and white striped shirts and blue shorts. When they wear other kits, they tend to go down.

As for Palace, they probably have the most different kit combinations of any team. Claret and blue, white with stripes, blue and red stripes etc etc. They are like a team of 11 brothers all of whom have a different dad, and have different surnames.

Leeds ought to go back to their blue and yellow halves and be proud of their city and heritage rather than being Madrid wannabes.

But we did play in blue and white for the first years of our history, some very nice outfits.

If I had to choose another colour, it would probably be a white and dark blue trim. For me, the best looking shorts are usually white.
