I know a few Oldham Fans who will be gutted to hear this. They thought he was class and should have been pushing for our first team.

Every time one goes out, it makes me think we have plans to bring good/sufficient numbers in...excellent if true.

A good move for him. Here's hoping that either a half or full season in League one at the right end of the table will be beneficial and really bring him on for us.
Looks like we're getting our fringe / young players out for game time at decent levels for them. Can only be a bonus in the long run.

It's further good news getting young players out at this level

Excellent move for him. I think he'll do really well playing under a good manager in a side that performed well last season.
Best of luck to him for the season and I hope he comes back ready for our first team.

They'll never come back ready for our first team unless we get relegated.

Yes that is so true. No player could ever play on loan for a league one side then go on to play in the premier league

Not like you to have a dig, Ablue. Would you rather he sat on our bench or not make the first team squad at all?
Sounds like a great move to me.

It"s a no win situation, SD will never play O'Neill in the Premier League so it does depend on us getting relegated for him to have any opportunity with us.

Couldn't be better. He's going to a progressive club at the top end of League One with a manager that Sean Dyche can trust with his players. We even have the recall option available to us in January.

So you're saying that if O'Neill has a great season, develops and gains first team experiences, Dyche won't consider him for the first team squad?
I don't agree - I think that if he keeps progressing and proves his worth, his chance will come. He's not ready yet but he could be in a season or so.

Are you suggesting that Dyche has some sort of vendetta again him that is preventing him from playing him in the Premier league? Or do you just think he might be making a judgement that he's not at that level yet?

Excellent! I think that's a good move for him. Hopefully he can get plenty of football under his belt and come back a better player.
The club have clearly improved in terms of getting young players out on loan. Not sure how much of that is down to contacts or simply because they're better young players. Maybe a mix of both.

You mean 'never' as in the 3 times he played him in the Premier League last season?

Dyche is a hugely conservative manager who will buy in experience over youth.
I don't blame him but no youth on the borderline is going to get much of a chance under him.

I think we can assume he meant never again. In addition it's hard to really argue with his assertion that SD will always favour experience over youth and that youth, as a consequence, is somewhat sidelined. In fact, once we ship out Agyei, there won't be a single player under 23 in the squad. Where that leaves us in the longer term we'll see but remember the clear out that Howe had to do after inheriting Laws' mess ? Then we starting signing younger players, it was a policy that served us well.

It's a policy we have forgotten. The Board need to remember how we got here.

Some points here:
When is Agyei being shipped out?
O'Neill has gone on loan to hopefully get some regular football.
The Laws' mess was getting rid of players who, in the main, had been with the club longer than Laws. The signing of younger players partly served us well. When we spent big it did but otherwise it landed us with players such as George Porter & Luke O'Neill.

"Someone with your history of the club CT must hope for the development of young talent or have you lost your Burnley soul."
Difficult to believe you wrote that. How many Youth games has Tony been to down the years? Why did he go to Brocton the other night?
Get a grip, ablueclaret.

I don't doubt CT's commitment to the youth policy but his unswerving devotion to SD's agenda which is hugely uncharacteristic of the Burnley style makes him appear less than interested in us purchasing young talent rather than aged experience.
For someone who experienced the Burnley Babes it feels like the forsaking of a philosophy which was and still should be at the very heart of this club.

Porter and O'Neill probably cost us less than a Rouen Hennings or a Vossen...or a Jutkiewicz. Your point is ?
All managers make bad signings.

How many good young players has SD signed other than when MacParland was here.

Same as you giving absolutely no credit to Howe for his, generally, rather productive signing of younger players. None of which cost an absolute fortune comparative to some, I assume, rather expensive mistakes latterly. As I said..all managers.

A policy that was initially built on the foundations of some younger players signed by the previous incumbent.

It's not just CT unfortunately, you can't make a point on here re SD and younger players, style of play, whatever, without getting pounced on.

You appear to be struggling ablue this evening, this is a thread about one of our excellent prospects (held in high esteem bythe current first team coaching team) getting the opportunity to get some first team games under his belt at a competitive level.
Good luck Aiden!

Kahru we are talking about CT's disposition towards EH and the signing of young players it has nothing to do with O'Neill who we all hope has a good season away from the club. Hopefully gets a contract which enables him to make progress through the divisions.

He's been struggling all summer to be honest. He used to put effort into trying to be controversial. Now he's gone all scattergun and careless.
He's got that carried away he's missed the fact we've paid about £50m for players under 25 in the last two seasons.

Marginally under 25 to be fair, can that be considered young in football terms ?

I'd like to have seen him playing in the championship. He looks a prospect, but league one will only keep him ticking over, he's hardly likely to grow into what we need from Fleetwood.
Personally I hope we bring him back in January.
Good luck to the lad mind, I hope I'm wrong.

Looking at BBC transfer ins and outs, it's great to see us smashing clubs of our size with lads going out on loan. Really shows that we have a good net of developing players that pther teams want. Well done Burnley!

Pp make me laugh, good for him to go on loan? Yes. Fleetwood? No better than Fleetwood? And this is a player we fielded last season in the premier league.
If had premier league potential he would go to a championship team.
