The thread about the price of a twix at the Turf got me thinking about popular sweets of the 70's. I used to buy them by the quarter from a shop in Peart Street off Colne Road and my favourites were Anglo bubble gum and black jacks.
Whatever happened to kaylie (the sweets). What were your favourites if you were around back then?

Proper sasparilla tablets that used to stick your teeth together.

Pacers are the sweets that always immediately spring to mind when this topic is discussed. They were awesome.

Used to love them - but when I started going on the Turf my granddad always had a bag of Riley's Chocolate Toffee Rolls.

Sasparillas were definitely up there.

sarsaparilla drops had a stable mate which were bluish green coloured- acid drops. I'm not sure if they made it into the 70s when "acid drops" took on a whole new meaning but I liked them in the 60s as an alternative to the red sarsp ones.
From the 60s, my favourite pocket money sweets were penny (1d) arrow bars, various flavours, very chewy.
The OP is talking 70s and the favourite sweets I remember from late 70s are "chewing nuts"; not nuts at all but very hard caramel with chocolate coating, in the shape of a nut. Really chewy.
Otherwise, always liked anything liquorice- 1d spanish sticks, pontefract cakes, liquorice tablets etc.

I worked on the redesign to Anglo Bubblies back in the 80's. Kept it fairly true to the original shop display packaging. 20 years later, I came up with the name for Haribo 'STARMIX'. Sales went from £250,000 per year to £35,000,000 across Europe.

I also liked Bluebird toffee bars that came as I recall with a small metal hammer.
There were small beige coloured sticks of rock that were liquorice flavoured in the 70's but I can't remember what they were called.

Holmeclaret: Closest I can think of its Coltsfoot Rock but that was a bit more spicy than liquorice. I liked those!

These were from the 80s and were quite possibly the weirdest and most disgusting things I ever ate. Didn't stop me buying loads of packets of them though. Cola flavoured ET biscuits.

Asda has an offer on black jacks, 5 packets for a £1 instead of 35p each, I am still enjoying black jacks and fruit salads

Another thumbs up for coltsfoot rock from me. On the bubbly front I liked the packs of Bubble Balls from DoubleBubble. Always looked out for the packs that had a black one in.
Also proper midget gems where the black ones were liqourice not black currant.

Just remembered Bazooka bubble gum - straight from the states, or so they would have

Wasn't that bazookas? I remember the tranfers but I can't say I thought much of the bubble gum.

Got to be packs of Spanish Gold, coconut strands rolled in brown sugar made to look like a pack of rolling tobacco!!Also, Everlasting strips, predecessor to the curly wurly and minus the chocolate. There was about 20 american kids sat in front of me on Tuesday night watching the match in JHL stand. Some came back at half time with bags of sour Haribos. You should have seen their faces.
