Re: Sam Clucas
Decent player, played CM more often last season. Lack of pace but good technique.

Not sure he's what we need, unless another player (Defour) is also leaving. Its pace and dash we need.
But he's a good player.

I can see the reasoning. A good technical work horse untility player.
Can play LM, RM, CM

Although he's a decent player, I'm not sure another midfielder is what we need.

I think we are fine in the centre if Defour stays. Good player though.

Re: Sam Clucas
He's an upgrade on Arfield for me. Can play out wide and central. If we play a midfield 5 on a regular basis this season then Clucas would slot in nicely.claretspice wrote:Not sure he's what we need, unless another player (Defour) is also leaving. Its pace and dash we need.
But he's a good player.
Central - Hendrick, Cork, Westwood, Defour, Marney, Clucas
Wingers - Arfield Brady JBG New.
That would see our midfield complete for me.

Surely Tom Lawrence has to be worth a look at re a wide berth or Lookman on loan if available. Clucas would offer decent utility but not entirely sure he's what is required.

If we signed Clucas you'd think it'd be the end of Arfield's Burnley career.

Just said on sky that Hull value him @ £10m. Apparently we have offered £5m, not surprising really. Why oh why do we always make stupid offers that we know will be rejected? Utc

I am not sure we need Clucas but I don't feel that is a realistic offer for him if we want him. You would need to at least double that.

Re: Sam Clucas
Sam Clucas impressed me everytime I seen him play last year. If he signed it would be a big boost in all our midfielders would be comfortable on the ball at this level which has been a massive weakness in our previous two premier league seasons. It allowed teams to just sit back and play it around til it went to our weak link.

Yes, I'd have been surprised if we'd signed him for 5mil. Mind you, not sure I agree with the person who commented on the article saying that he's worth at least 20mil in today's marketjedi_master wrote:5 million....really?

He's a good player, and would arguably be our second best wide player too if Dyche chooses to play him there.

Certainly a Dyche type player. Not sure on his end product though, but he'll work his balls off, track back and help defend.

This would be a brilliant signing. Immensely strengthens us out wide while also bolsters an already impressive central midfield area. 12-15 million and he's ours, I reckon.

Re: Sam Clucas
As a CM?
Yes please, would love to have him here, cash plus a triple choc or peanut butter Twix (they are available)
Although I'm not sure how we would fit him into a 25 man squad when Marney returns in January.
As a winger?
Not really.

A couple of days ago it was reported that Watford had offered just £8M for Gray. As Gray's eventual value would appear to be £18.5M surely Watford just made an absolutely stupid offer there. Re: Sam Clucas
He's also played LB for about half a season when Dan Jones got injured and CF after Eoin Doyle got sold for a bit. I wouldn't say CF was his best (although he was better there than the double-barrelled overweight lump that Chesterfield had there the next season), but he worked well playing off Nando. If you substitute Vokes for Nando in front of a four in a 4-4-1-1 then he'll be fine. Probably more than fine bearing in mind that Nando was every bit a Div 2 player (playing in Div 1) and Vokes is class.

Re: Sam Clucas
If we get him I think Defour will be on his way. Otherwse we would have gone from the utter ridiculousness of just Marney and Jones to SIX specialists in the middle.
Re: Sam Clucas
People think we have too many CMs but if we play 4-5-1 we are 1 injury/suspension from playing Arfield in there or reverting back to 442. Clucas is a great Boyd Replacement.
Re: Sam Clucas
Clucas and Defour are very different players. Although the way this window's looking it wouldn't surprise if we got rid of our creativity as well as our pacesummitclaret wrote:If we get him I think Defour will be on his way. Re: Sam Clucas
We have, as first choice CM- Cork, Westwood, Hendrick, and Defour. As "fallbacks" we have Arfield, Ulvestad and, when fit again, possibly Marney.
If we do move towards 4-5-1 as a formation then I'd say we're still light by 1 player. Especially as Ulvestad doesn't seem to be good enough and Arfield is coming into the last year of his contract and is seen as a player we should be looking at upgrading on. This isn't including injuries, suspensions to our first choice midfielders.
In fact even if we stick with 4-4-2 I'd say we want another midfielder in so that we can have effective options from the bench if we need to change things mid game.
I'd imagine that an up front fee of £7-8 million plus add-ons will see him join us.
Anybody know how close he is to Charlie Taylor? Possibility that he might be chatting to him and ncouragig him to make the move?

Surely it would make more sense to go in for groseki
Re: Sam Clucas
If we are serious about getting Clucas in then suspect Dyche
may wish to have sufficent players available to mix up the formation/starting eleven.
Wheter it be 4-5-1 or possibly 4-3-3 or even the tried and tested 4-4-2.
Clucas could play in any of those formations and probably is an upgrade on Arfield within a 4-4-2.
Not sure we are serious but given it's Burnley I suppose the iniital bid
of 5m was to be expected as was Hull's response.
Can't see then letting him go for less than 8m with fairly substantial add-ons.
Presumably we (the club/chairman) must also realise that Hull aren't going to let him go
unless it's an offer they can't refuse. Hopefully wages wouldn't be an issue.
Be interesting to see whether we come back with a better offer?
Probably 6m + add-ons which, no doubt, will also be turned down.
Or whether Clucas is interested.
There may well be one or two other clubs who may wish to have him
and wouldn't wish to lose out on him as I do beleive he could improve the team.
