Not what we need. No better than Vokes.

Re: Bid rejected for chris woods
Would be extremely pointless signing Wood. He is the exact same type of Vokes. We need a pacy striker who can actually score and have quality. Not a graft merchant as we have plenty of those.

Rather have Vokes too!

Until this is confirmed by the club I think it's safe to say that we'll all be asking if we've got wood.

Good player and if we didn't have Vokes then I'd be really excited.
But we do have Vokes.

He's better than Vokes IMO. And Dyche obviously rates him as it's the second time he's tried to sign him.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
So long as he's not our only forward that we sign, I think he'd be a good purchase. Living in Leeds, I've had to sit through enough Leeds games when on a days out with mates, to know he's a very handy player who knows where the goal is. He's better than Vokes and certainly not exactly like him.

What are the chances of a triple signing announcement on Monday morning?
Shawcross, Clucas and Wood...how would that sit with everyone?

I posted this yesterday and the thread got taken down. Not sure why? Maybe because everyone was calling me for what I said. As I stated yesterday for the people who didn't see it, the fee is £25 million.

A whiff of desperation in the air methinks
An hour ago Burnley were 5th or 6th in the betting to sign Chris Woods behind Huddersfield and Brighton but we have now usurped them both and are clear favourites at 3/1.

Be very happy with this. Very good player with an excellent goalscoring record. Physical. Reasonably quick. Great touch. Good in yhe air and deck. Whats not to like.

Whatever the opinion of the particular possibility can we please, please have a reduction in the idiot count of people using it to air adverse comment re Dyche. The man has consistently worked a miracle for our club yet for some reason some want to come on hear and start dishing it out to him. Completely bizarre . I don't use the term idiot lightly either.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Whiff of an increasingly Scattergun approach as the days tick by. As for Wood, a slightly younger Vokes ? Not what we need, pace and a clever player(s) is what is required, a bit of a spark. It's all looking a little pedestrian in the forward department.
Hitting it long for a couple of big lads ?

I just think he his similar to the strikers we already have . Looks like its just gonna be crosses whipped in and head on the end as all the strikers we have are big powerful lads

According to the latest article in the LET Sean Dyche is hoping to expand Burnley's horizons.
I reckon if he lands Woody a bid for Buzz Lightyear will soon follow.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
I agree with all that really. Only reservation is that although he may be better than what we've got, is he different enough to what we've got?cricketfieldclarets wrote:Be very happy with this. Seems like if this is true, we'll be more one dimensional than last season. I'm all for the direct approach, I really am. It's worked. But there were times last season when it was obvious we needed a different kind of outlet, a plan b, someone to stretch a defence, some pace... Call it what you want.
I like Wood and he'd be a good signing but not sure if he gives us the above.

I understand why you would question that but in today's market that is the price for the Championship's top goalscorer. We just sold Andre for £18.5m and he can't trap a bag of cement.Barry_Chuckle wrote:If we sign Wood for £25m, I'd question whether SD is in above his head.

Good. It's needed. Always viewed him as a target man though - admittedly haven't seen much of him. Would preferably like a striker who's nippy, shoulder of the last man kinda stuff.joey13 wrote:He's got pace though .

Please No. Surely we can do better.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Will partner Ings well, a younger, more mobile Vokes.
Thats if Ings comes in, otherwise its not really what we need.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Seen quite a bit of Wood over the last couple of years living in Leeds. He's a good striker and last season an outstanding goal scorer. Much more of a Vokes than an Ings though which makes it hard to think he's what we need.
If Leeds' valuation is £25m then we're probably not going to get him.

What this does do is make it apparent - if it wasn't already - the cost of someone who's scored goals in the actual Premier League.

Wood is better than Vokes, but isn't what we need.
Sign him and we still need another forward and then what of Vokes and / or Barnes. Strange.
Barnes, Wood, Walters, Vokes - feckinhell

Imagine a front two of Vokes and Wood, and a defence of Mee, Shawcross and Dawson. We'd be nailed on to score from every single good set piece delivery lol

Shawcross, Clucas and Wood...how would that sit with everyone?
Wood is no different from what we already have. Vokesy is arguably better and he has a developed relationship with the other squad members. Barnes also provides us with the extra dimension of being a first class pest and general all round knightmare for the defenders of other teams. Leeds will happily hold us to ransom in return for Woods and make us pay through the nose. A figure of 25m would make us a guaranteed laughing stock, putting a huge question mark next to our sensible buying policy and rightly so. 15m would be an eye watering price for him. Don't need him, don't want him.
Clucas would be a very good addition, more so for the future than now because centre mid isn't or probably shouldn't be a top priority. It depends on what other plans are in place. As a starting winger he would be an underwhelming signing.
Shawcross at 10m would be a very bad bit of business in my opinion. So I am hoping the meda releases from Stoke of it being "absolute baloney" are on the money.
