The same Ranocchia who gifted Palace their early goal in the end-of-season "must win" game that Hull lost !

There was a bit of a feature on him on Radio 5 last season. Apparently he was very promising, but has had a pretty disastrous last 4-5 years. They were surprised he'd got a move to the Prem based on his error-prone nature. Inter are desperate to get rid of him.

On that basis I'll be surprised if Dyche takes a gamble on him.

All I know is Hull fans were really happy with him last season and wanted to sign him permanently.
As a third choice signing at our level you don't get much better

I thought he was awful for Inter and an absolute liability for many years. He was excellent for Hull though

What a load of shi**! SD would never sign a foreign CB.

If WBA sign him hopefully that will that free up Dawson to join the clarets, what we missed in the 2nd half on saturday was someone pushing the back four up, Sean noticed we were defending our 18 yard box just before the 2nd goal and tried to push them out, but somebody on the pitch doing this job would be better.

I think it is extremely unlikely that Pullis will be willing to let anyone go this window. He was decrying the fact that he needs about five bodies yet to fill his first team squad as he only has 17 senior professionals at the club.

So I for one have completely written Dawson off as coming here any time soon.

I suspect the same so hopefully we are assessing other options, the Shawcross link has gone quiet again, definitely need another centre defender in this window.

The fact of the matter is Dawson has a year left on his contract and they will be wanting to sell rather than get nothing for him next summer.

Perhaps but they will only sell if he is not going to be a regular starter for them next season, that will depend on who they sign in the next couple of weeks, i hope Dawson is not using us a a bargaining tool to get another improved deal from the baggies again.

A duel? We need a centre back but a duel is a bit drastic! I'd still put money on our Sean over Tony mind! Pistols at dawn.

There no substance to this, an italian tabloid has picked up on an article on the HITC website saying Burnley "should" be interested in him and linked it to a sun article that doesn't even mention us.

That's why i posted it.. there are lot of articles in the Italian Press posted late last night suggesting it was close and he wanted to come.

Be a decent signing. every defender has an error in him. Hi have he utmost confidence in dyche and his team to get him focussed and looking an excellent defender.

Remember how poor Shackell looked after he left? I think the way we train & play as a team gets the best out of players, particularly defenders. This could work out!

On the link above it showed a posting at 18.21 (i guess that's Italian time) that said his signing was imminent and everything was pretty much agreed between Inter, player & Burnley, maybe just doing/finishing off the medical.

Given the difficulties he's had in his recent career and his age, I think it's a slightly odd signing to replace Keane to be honest. Smacks of plan F.

29 is not old though, and he did well last season for Hull.

Not sure he's plan F to be fair

Over 100 appearances for Inter suggest he must have some decent qualities.

I don't think Dyche does plan F to be honest. I think he'd do without first.

I'm excited about this potential signing. 150 games for Inter and a full Italian international shows how far we've come as a football club.

Let's get him across the line.

Have you seen how tall he is?

Wiki says:

1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) (according to Hull City)
1.95 m (6 ft 5 in) (according to Sampdoria)

I didn't know our measuring was that much different than in Italy :D

29 isn't old, but there's no potential resale there. Meant in terms of replacing a very saleable asset.

Isn't that what Tarks is already though?

Re: Ranocchia

Not every signing has to have a resale value,we have to strike a balance between investing in youth and consolidating our Premier League place,Italians generally know a thing or two about defending, plus he has experience of Hull last season so it won't be a culture shock.Hope we get this one over the line.

Re: Ranocchia

Posted: Thu Aug 17, 2017 6:37 pm

If Tarks is firmly in Dyche's preferred two, then this makes more sense as he's coming in to cover.

Would imagine the fee won't be huge. Inter are desperate to get rid.

Vital that we bring another defender in. A Ben Mee injury would put the dreaded duo of Tarkowski and Long back together. Both good defenders but need to play next to Mee I feel.

Just as long as it's not one of those Twix ice creams. We have a wages cap still that probably shouldn't be breached for a CB.

I thought he did well for Hull so I am surprised some wouldn't be happy with this.

He is very experienced, loads of games in the top flight i Italy and Champions League for Inter, 21 caps for a country which breeds superb defenders and importantly has had a taste of this league (meaning less risky than other foreign options).

Yeah, I would be happy with this.
