Very nice to hear, and from someone like Barton, it bodes well for our future and for what Dyche has built here.

I spoke to him once but only briefly but what has become very clear during his two spells with us is how much he enjoyed it at Burnley and that clearly brought the best out of him. Whatever he's done in the past, he was a credit to our club, but he's not the only player to sign and then speak about the dressing room and how welcoming it is. Michael Keane said last season that if you weren't feeling too good then coming into the club just gave you a lift.

One little story about him. A friend of mine got a signed shirt at the end of last season but Joey had gone by the time the shirt was signed. He contacted Joey, sent him the shirt and it came back signed in no time with a short note thanking him for his support.

Top man and the one thing Joey knows is that he'll always be welcome back at the Turf.

Good player for Burnley, shame for you he wasn't younger as I think he'd have spent some time at the club.

We take people as we find 'em and to be fair we always found Joey to be a top chap. How others found him is up to them .

I've said this before, but he came into where I work in Dublin whilst he was at QPR. He was entertaining, engaging and had clear views on how football works, what was good, what was bad. From that couple of hours I had a very good feeling he would get on well with the way Burnley was ran. Also another player who for most of us was way above the calibre we were used to seeing in a Burnley shirt.

Surely an asset to the coaching staff in waiting. . I'd love to see Joey back in the future.

I don't agree, he had to defend himself against the great big bruiser the ref failed to spit despite everyone else and Joey even asking him blatantly what he was going to about the onslaught of hits against him.

From reading his book, a good read, I think he will end up working in some capacity at Newcastle. This will only happen though after Ashley has gone.

The Ref was a disgrace and Joey took it upon himself to put things right. He was wrong but the Ref was the disgrace on that day.

I think I was the second person to give him a bottle of Coke at Burnley. The first one was thrown at him when he was playing for QPR and I presented him with a bottle at the player of the year evening.

My son was waiting outside the Turf to get Joey signature on his shirt. Joey arrived in his big black bus and when my son leaned forward and called out to Joey, Joey explained he was late and needed to sign in or the gaffer would have him. I saw this as he didn't have time and encouraged my son to look for other players making their way in. Joey came back out after 5 minutes and walked straight up to my son and said Michael isn't it, sorry about that but where we.

I will never forget that and Joey playing for us and will be a legend for me.

It wasn't good, but as has been said, he got clearly elbowed in the back of the head off the ball.

It was a clear sending off and because the ref missed it, joey tried to get even.

Not great, but its one blemish in a very good career for us.

For me his leadership qualities in the Championship season were as good as anything or anyone I've witnessed(certainly in a Burnley shirt). His sheer desire and game management were exemplary,games at Brighton and at home to Middlesbro(both just draws) underlining these aspects of his play.
Mentioned a little earlier by someone that they see him returning to Newcastle in the future. I have close relatives in the North East and I don't think they would concur with that view.

He earned the respect of fans, players and manager. Think his on field presence raised the game of a few around him.

For once I agree with KRBFC, Joey took the physical challenge from their centre forward as a personal challenge to his machismo and as is highlighted in No Nonsense this looks to be the trigger for each of his lapses into brutality.

I'm not judging as the circumstances of his upbringing may have led him to see this as a key to survival.

It seems he was able to take all the late tackles in his stride but the attempt to rough him up, lit the fuse.

This was very early in the match and there was not even a free kick given --even though the video says that Rhead was getting his revenge!!

He lead with a little edge but much calmer than earlier in his career.
He took control of the midfield with extreme calmness givem the blatant assaults he faced in many games.

Think most "real" (that excludes any further comments from saxo and krbfc) burnley fans would love to see him back in a coaching capacity.

If ever a personality, a playing style and club were made for each other it was Barton and Burnley!

It is a shame that the "Authorities" got him in the end. Pity that he will never play at the top level again!

I admire fighting spirits, he had that in abundance.
Something just happened to our midfield from the moment he arrived, it seemed to spread throughout the team. He had real ability too. I will always think of him as the bloke who spent time at the hospice, and the bloke who did more than a few other things out of the public glare for the best of reasons and for no personal gain.
Recently, he was my favourite player, sad hes not here to be honest.

For what its worth I wouldn't mind him back In a coaching role, I liked him when he was here apart from while sat on the Turf watching his embarrassing actions against Lincoln. The real Burnley fans...... Yeah you're such a real fan aren't you?

Fair enough, but Joey trying to get Rhead, (one of the worst footballers to grace the Turf, incidentally) sent off, would have never happened if the ref or linesman had witnessed Rhead using a WWE move on Joeys head.
