Pre-holiday tipple at the airport bar?

I'm hoping to be in the departure lounge around 5am on Friday morning before jetting off for 2 weeks in the sun. Is this too early for a pint to get in the holiday spirit or should I stick to coffee seeing as how I will be with the wife and 2 teenage kids?

Go for it! You'll have to be up very early so by 5am it may well feel like pint o'clock (or whichever alcoholic beverage takes your fancy).

It's fun but also grim

Do whatever you want. Unless you're flying the plane?
2 drink maximum... hah. How about starting by banning those who've had 10 or just come from a nightclub to the airport for a 4am Ryanair to Ibiza.
Fed up of people overreacting about everything.

I always used to whatever the time - earlier the better. I was never the only one that's for sure. Haven't been able to do it on the holiday I'm currently on as we had to collect a hire car in Malaga. Plenty of people drinking at 5am in Manchester airport on our way out....... I was jealous and she knew it.

Once you're past security then it's fine! You're on international time then and it's always drinks o'clock! Unless you're a pikey, in which please don't drink near me (especially if you can't handle it).

Having spent a long time flying people on holiday, passengers getting p!ssed before flying is simply crass stupidity. What seems like fun to these idiots is generally very annoying to everyone else. If it was down to me they would be refused passage and would forfeit their holiday. Having to taxi back to the gate, divert whilst en-route or having to get the police to meet the aircraft is needless and it can get very expensive. Personally, I would sue the miscreants for every penny it costs to divert the aircraft, and put their names on an industry wide sh!t list. Simply put, have a sharpener if you must, but leave the drinking until you get where you are going.

I've a couple of mates who always get hammered before flying. They dress is up as 'enjoying themselves' etc, but they're just s**t scared of flying. Which is fine, but let's not pretend otherwise.
Enjoy it while you can if it's your thing, I can see it going the way of smoking in public places in the next few years.

Just been Caleta de Fuste, lovely place.
I'm a nervous flyer but I wouldn't want to get on a plane hammered. Might have a pint if it's an afternoon or evening flight, but can't see the attraction of drinking before dinner.

I would also like to add the danger to other passengers should an emergency evacuation be required.

Getting hammered and causing distress to other passengers and crew should be totally and absolutely dealt with in the strictest manner.
Having a couple of quiet beers before you go without concerning anyone else is OK in my book.
The airlines want to ban alcohol sales in the airport, but will they also ban in flight sales of alcohol or is that too much of a money spinner?
I would never pay on board prices anyway. Compete rip off.

Idiot. Just one of the reasons society is going down the pan is because of the 'do whatever you want and f*ck everyone else' attitude. Oh, and If some p!ssed up t0sser was blocking your emergency exit with an on board fire in progress, I'll bet you wouldn't be thinking 'Fed up of people overreacting about everything'.

Mine is a nice cup of tea.
Unfortunately it's normally bogging in the Airport so a refreshing Cider often wins the day.
EDIT
Although it was 1985, it wasn't too long ago in my memory the Manchester Airport disaster, some of our posters probably don't even know it happened.
If this doesn't make you think about being responsible, nothing will.

I fly long haul every two weeks and never touch a drop at the airport. My first drink is usually a glass of red wine with the meal en-route. I see so many people at Manchester at 5 in the morning on the lash and it never ceases to amaze me. They certainly have stronger constitutions than me.

I was diverted to France on a family holiday to Spain, Jet2 early morning flight from Leeds with a stag do of around 33 on. Now most of them were pretty sound and embarrassed about their two friends behaviour who had purchased a bottle of Vodka and Champagne to top up their 10 pints. The only problem the airline staff had was the alcohol they were consuming wasn't sold by them so they tried to take it off them. Not that they were ****** out of their heads. This led to them downing straight Vodka and Champagne straight from the bottle and threatening to bottle the air stewardess.
Their mates helped strap them in to continue the flight but they just got worse as the Vodka kicked in, eventually getting arrested in France at a 45k expense and 2 hours delay to our arrival.
They should of been stopped from flying but it's a profit driven industry, apparently Jet2 won't serve alcohol before 8am now.

There were four of us sat together last month on the way to Dublin. The flight was 8 a.m. and it was around an hour before that when we got through security and sat down. The order was three coffees and a pint. To be honest, I don't think I could drink a pint at that time, but you are on holiday.
Will there be a photo for the new feature (once I've received enough)?

There is a difference between having a couple of beers and getting hammered.. Stay sensible and it isn't a problem. It's the idiots who spoil it for everyone else. As usual.

I find it amusing (many may not), that staff on aeroplanes struggle to deal with drunken passengers. Why do airports have bars? Nuts, if you ask me!

I must admit that I've been lucky because in the 30 years I've been flying abroad for a summer holiday, often twice a year and at peak times, I've never witnessed any problems involving over consumption of alcohol by any passenger on any flight.
Like I say, lucky I guess. Statistically probably not so.

Last time I flew I chilled out in the Virgin Atlantic lounge at Heathrow, had a glass of champagne with my full english (i also had a pot of tea!) and then chilled out on the soft seats sipping 2 pints and a rather posh cocktail. It's not my normal 1 pint at Wetherspoons-esque departure lounge pub with full english, but that is the most I have drank before a flight. I did so, because I wanted to enjoy the experience. I wasn't harming anyone and had no interest in causing any interruption or hassle for my fellow flyers.

I shall be at Manchester Airport tomorrow at 5.30am for my flight to Alicante, 2.45hr flight. Will kick the day off with a coffee and a pana chocolata pastry. I never drink alcohol on a short flight, can't anyhow as I shall be driving at the other end.
In my younger days I was always ****** when I arrived at my destination. Nothing worse than having a hang over and feeling rotten when you get off the plane

Nothing better than a good brew, tea or coffee, I don't mind which. I make nothing of
standing outside a miniscule bog, dancing a jig several times during a flight.
I too am lucky in that I have never been bothered on a flight by drunken idiots, so
let's hope it continues next Wednesday when I am Cyprus bound.

My advice is do everyone a favour and stick to a cuppa or a fruit juice.
