We come 12th and were at Palace when theirs was set. Arsenal and Spurs don't seem right as they were at Wemberleeee. Plenty more room for tourists.

What's our highest League attendance?

I think it's a game against Blackpool - 49,000+ just after WW2? Maybe that's a post war record?

The Palace one was on a Friday night and they needed to beat us to win promotion. Had they not done so, Sunderland would have gone up and that wasn't going to happen because it was all out war between Burnley and Sunderland because Adamson was manager there.

We meekly surrendered at Palace.

Some amazing crowds back then, especially just after the war when crowds were at an all time high.

I wonder what our record crowd would have been had our ground held more, as we had a number of full houses back then in the FA Cup? Wasn't there once an FA Cup tie called off with 50,000+ inside the ground?

The highest I remember being on was 42.000 against Everton fa cup 67. And 38.000 against Leeds 72/3 in the league. I stand to be corrected though.

Did we not also have a league match attendance of over 45,000 in season 1967 against Liverpool at Turf Moor?

There could well have been games with more on, but League games prior to 1925/26 season were predominantly guesswork in terms of attendances, and sometimes there is no record at all for lots of games the further back you go.

And a twix was a distant dream for some.

They are including cup games and games at Wembley yet we had over 80,000 watching us play Wolves at Wembley.

I was one of the 46,810 on the Spurs game of 1962, 2-2 final score, with my Dad cheering on the Spurs

They're home cup games.

Finals at neutral venues don't count.

Thought that was pretty obvious,

If you mean the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in 1970, there were 32,000 at the replay

Incidentally, according to Wikipedia, Accrington Stanleys record home attendance (10801)was set when
they played at Deadwood against Crewe in the Cup in December, 1995.

How long before they're playing there again, regularly.

Yes, it was a bit lively on the Longside, especially around half-time.

Papers reported that there were as many as 10,000 fans locked out as the ground was already full. Back then the cup replays were In the week following the Saturday game (always Saturday 3pm, no sky tv games then) - so, cash on the gate, no time to print tickets.

Pity about the result :(

Times is reporting this morning that Spurs v Burnley will have a bigger crowd than Spurs v Chelsea at Wembley. Safety regs have limited ticket sales to neutrals for the Chelsea game - same for Arsenal later in the season. But, these limits don't apply to all games.

Quote from The Times: "Ironically Burnley, who visit Wembley a week on Sunday will, attract a far bigger crowd than Chelsea because Tottenham are able to sell tickets to the general public."

I don't know how people feel about the word "ironically." I guess the reporter wasn't at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

If I was marketing the game to neutrals/tourists I'd be selling it as a replay of the 1962 Cup Final - a game between the "top teams in English football."
