Am I allowed to post this?

Ten years ago we started fostering a couple of kids who were homeless.

The eldest was eight years old and could not read or write.

Society had written him off so we adopted him and his brother.

Two years ago he passed all eleven gcse' s that he took.

Today he passed all three A levels at Burnley college including an A star in maths and will now go to Bangor University to start a four year degree in Marine Biology.

Talk about being proud.

He is in The Swan in Burnley celebrating!!

Absolutely awesome mate; the world could do with a few more people like you.....

I can only imagine how difficult that was at times - a better man than me that's for sure.
Bravo

Great stuff.

We now have a contributor to society, someone who adds to the collective good, as opposed to a layabout chavvy thug who would spend his entire adult life smoking drugs, spending his benefits on alcohol, and blaming the rest of us for his lack of opportunities.

A massive well done ty, to you AND the lad.

I'll add my congrats too. I've met tybfc just once, and I'm also stunned it was 10 years ago.

I would also encourage others reading this to consider fostering. There are always going to be children needing these wonderful people, and the more the authorities tighten child welfare sadly the more the need becomes exposes and deepened.

I'm personally not in a situation to foster, but I'm a Guardian ad Litem and therefore work with foster parents like Tony and wife every week of my life. I introduced a single female friend of mrsNRC and me to the notion, and she is now fostering two sisters, 6 and 8, is really in at the deep end, moving from just her to now a family of three, and their energy. But her depth of what she gets out of it is only surpassed by what the two girls will get out of it through the "normalization."

Sorry for hijacking it slightly Tony, but again, if you've thought about fostering, take the plunge, and if you haven't thought about it, please do - you'll be amazed what it brings to you

Tony, I'm assuming that's Alex.

I recall when you were finally given the all clear to adopt him and Dan. You posted how lucky you were and I said it was Alex & Dan who were the lucky ones getting you and Pam as their parents.

Not seen Alex in a while now but a massive well done to him, please send him my best wishes, and a massive well done to you and Pam for fighting to be allowed to adopt them and then giving them the home and stability that has allowed Alex to go on to achieve this.

I do like a good, positive story and this is very definitely one.

Absolutely fantastic....well done to all in the ty household.

Hope your boys go on to great success and happiness in whatever they choose to do. Sounds like you've given them both a great start in life when, I guess, it could have been so different for them.

Chapeau!

This is why we have non-football topics on this board as we all share in ty's, his wife's and son's achievement. Well done to all concerned. I formerly knew ty as a knowledgeable cricket supporter and baiter of all Yorkshiremen but now I know he is a good man too.
