Marsden Park Golf Course

Played Marsden Park Golf Course today. An interesting and challenging 18 hole course which was in excellent condition.

I think the course would benefit from a little more support from Clarets fans. Highly recommended.

p.s. make sure you have at least six spare balls as the rough is very unforgiving ;)

I've played numerous local golf courses, but Marsden is where it all began for me: I love the layout and the fact that there are several risk-reward holes.

Heard the greens were in a terrible state the other week for an open and that the course is untidy.

Played it a lot in he early 90's when first getting into golf. Great course for a muni ... still remember my first ever Eagle on 12 ( I think) Persimmon 2 wood, 3 iron and holed the putt! Must give it another bash next time back in the hood but usually opt for Glen View.

It's alright, but far too many Mickey Mouse holes on the back 9

It was only a 9 hole when I used to play there

That's a long time ago. It's been 18 for at least 30 years

Agree about the back 9. Still looks like a farmer's field.

Is the back 9 the old back 9 because they changed it around cardiac hill was always the 16 but for some unknown reason it became the 7 th, that 9 was always in poor condition unless the weather had been kind (never)

The back nine to me was always cardiac being 16, I'm pretty sure thats the way it is at the moment

I have been playing this course about four times a year for the past 5 years. It will never be a top class perfectly manicured course and has always been a bit rough around the edges (pardon the pun).

BUT over the last few months a lot of work has been put into improving the fairways and greens. I actually prefer the back 9 holes and the 16th (cardiac hill) is still there and has got to be played to be believed.

Maybe not a course for the best/most serious players but recommended for enthusiastic 'social golfers' like myself who like to play different courses rather than become a member of a single private club.

Is there a FootGolf course there as well?

The course has recently been taken over by a very local professional golfer who is a big Claret. He, his wife, his son and a great team are pulling out all the stops to make the club a real community club and have refurbished the club house significantly. There is now a bistro and that, along with the bar, are both open to the general public, so I would recommend any fellow Clarets to get up there for lunch and a pint.

They recently held a big Pro-Am tournament which had around 20 professionals playing and they are planning future golf days, but get up there even if you are not a golfer and sample the beer!! :-)

the new chef was head chef at the stone trough for many years....when I was talking to new owner Neil he was telling me how pleased he was with the chefs quality....I think you can have breakfast Thursday to Sunday or something like that from 8 am and if you fancy a restaurant quality brekky with your other half you can have stuff like eggs benedict etc and eat on the balcony overlooking the course....got to be worth a visit to eat/play golf or both....utc.

Good 'O, and on the question of hamstrings HC I've had plenty of experience with them, my advice is always but always use an elasticated support and warm up by very slowly stretching and you will be fine.

Used to play there as a kid years ago. Love the course. Heard Neil Reeves had taken over as pro. I went to school with him so hope all goes well for him and the club.
