Jack Walkers dead chant
Jack Walkers dead chant
Am I the only one that cringes at this? I feel ashamed to be a Burnley fan when this chant goes around.
We were playing at Blackburn FFS. Some of his family could have even been present at the game.
Totally classless and we should be better than that.

Need more classy chants like the 'intobread' one Rovers sing.
Re: Jack Walkers dead chant
Agree with you Steddyman, I have cringed at this from day one. Time we grew up, we are bigger than them and well past the Jack Walker/Blackburn superior days. Surely we can come up with a witty song highlighting the demise of Roverrs?Steddyman wrote:Am I the only one that cringes at this? I feel ashamed to be a Burnley fan when this chant goes around.

I don't sing along to it, but it certainly doesn't make me cringe. It's an unpleasant ditty, but we all have a right to be unpleasant, if that suits us.

Are any of Jack's family still welcome at Ewood?
They p*ssed all over Uncle Jack's dream.

Sooner or later the media will pick up on these chants, like the ones at Chelsea too, and you'll have a fine reputation.

But Jack is dead and he had a family and friends. Also he may have bankrolled rovers for a long time, but he did that out of love. He wasn't an evil man we should be joyfully celebrating the death of on his own turf.

In fairness, it's hardly celebrating his death, as much as revelling in the effects of what him no longer having a hand in their affairs is having on their Club.Steddyman wrote:That is just a joke, banter. We all know it isn't true.

Sorry? I did a google for Jack Walker Conviction and cannot see any articles saying he was convicted of tax evasion. Was he?joey13 wrote:So it's ok to dodge tax then ?
Tax avoidance is fair play and legal if that is what you are accusing him of.
I am unsure what this has to do with the question of the thread though. Would that make him evil and worthy of death?

He was a tax dodger , if you think it's ok to pay less tax than the average worker then fine .Steddyman wrote:Sorry? I did a google for Jack Walker Conviction and cannot see any articles saying he was convicted of tax evasion. Was he?

Is it time for another 'is the king is dead, long live the king song offensive to the king' argument again?
It's almost as if the argument raises its head every time we play the Darwen mob.

Re: Jack Walkers dead chant
If it gets under the Rovers fans skin, it is doing it's no. The more people complain, the more it will get sung.
Rightly or wrongly fans and people in general will make songs and jokes about deaths, convictions or anything that gets a rise.
It's the way of the world now a days I'm affraid.
There's right and wrong on both sides, and doesn't look like changing, and you have 3 options.
1. Embrace it
2. Ignore it
3. Do something about it.
But 1 fact is, wanting change things by pleading on a internet message board, will achieve absolutely nothing.

Re: Jack Walkers dead chant
Dodging tax isn't illegal. Jack Walker went to Jersey to avoid paying tax to the UK, and carefully timed his visits to make sure he didn't accidentally get caught spending too many days here. Sometimes he had a plane sitting at Blackpool Airport for a late Saturday flight home, just to make sure he didn't go over the limit.
I'm not saying he was wrong, and I'm not saying I wouldn't do the same if I was rich enough. But it's fact that he was a tax dodger; the term is pejorative, said in a way to make him look bad, but it's factually accurate.

I'm an accountant. It's not illegal. Tax avoidance can be as simple as opening an ISA, or leaving the country to live somewhere cheaper, or it can be very complicated, but avoidance is within the law. Tax evasion is the illegal one.joey13 wrote:It's still illegal ask an accountant
It's actually the definition of the difference between avoidance and evasion, that avoidance is legal, evasion isn't.

Re: Jack Walkers dead chant
As per last time this chant came up on a thread sing it loud with passion,I do. Look at the decay at deadwood the deadwood Walker built it started dieing when he did, celebrate the fact some foreign owners are watching them slowly wither and really dont care. Its factual and rubs there noses in it. Dont give me the poor old Walker family line that it isnt nice to hear it if they are on the match they probably know Jacks dead. I choose not though to sing the hes dead dead dead at the end as that makes it an insult not a song of triumph.
Re: Jack Walkers dead chant
I'm not gay but I often have to repel the urge to get a grip of a fans balls that is chanting the ditty in my delicate ear-hole.gandhisflipflop wrote:Some of our fans really need to get a grip. If you don't like offensive songs then football isn't the place for you. Try the theatre or something.

But if I was offended by something, I'd report it. If not I keep myself to myself.
People get offended by a whole host of things these days, the song doesn't particularly upset me, nor do I sing it from the rooftops.
I can't think of a song sang on the Turf that doesn't upset someone somewhere.

That'll be why Walker was only allowed to be in the country for so many days per year , if he had stayed one day over he would have been arrested for tax avoidance.dsr wrote:I'm an accountant. Gary Barlow avoided paying tax and has had to pay up because by avoiding paying tax he acted illegally.

If it upsets the Bar Stewards then it's fine by me. I remember those pr1cks singing 'Up On The Roof' in 1992 after Ben Lee's death. Sing it loud and offend them as much as you like. After years of listening to their arrogance, mockery and insults they deserve it with both barrels.
