Is this thread about the excellent performance of our central defender or about your very good bet win?

Fair play to Tarky. He's been saying he could replace Keane and he was excellent today.

Played well, but we need a signing behind him. Cant be relying on Taylor to back up Ward AND the CB's if things go tits up. We have the funds, we sure need to spend it .... wisely as we always have done.

Great performance today. Kept cool, some good blocks and well placed passes. Top performance against one of the better sides

IT COULD WELL END UP AS TARKOWSKI AND A NEW SIGNING PLAYING TOGETHER.

Very good performance today. Some people were getting on his back too early - he will still make mistakes but if we stick by him and he keeps learning, he'll do just fine.

What was pleasing about today was the Kane chance. Tarks stayed close enough to give him a bit less time to compose himself and Heaton stood up. If he's done that last week it would have given R-K a bit more to think about rather than a free run at Tom. Learning fast

Them bets are pretty good cause didn't realise until weds when I backed wood to get the 3rd goal is that u get your money back if no said goal is scored
And 20-1 is good odds not sure what time u put it on tho

I still want to see another cb signed before the month's out but I honestly always thought that SD would start with JT in place of Keane.

To his credit David Pleat claimed that the signing of James Tarkowski by Burnley was the best piece of business done by any club during that transfer window.
Looks like he may well have been right.

Or a centre back that is better than both Tarky and Mee.

Initially thought we needed an out-and-out Keane replacement and had doubts about Tarkowski but he was extremely good today against one of the best strikers in the PL.
Possibly the best thing about his performances is that instead of chasing Simunovic, Kone or Shawcross who we've been linked with, realistically or otherwise, most people would be happy now with a solid back-up who could develop very much in the way JT has, someone like Jansson or Lees for example.

I said back in the January of last year when we got him how good he was

The rep I got chatting too( season ticket holder at Brentford) raved about him and was gutted they let him go,more so than Gray.. He just needed his chance and run in the team..he will be better than Keane in the long term. ..

He looked good when he played last season and got the plaudits on here.
Looked suspect when he partnered long with a lot of the side injured but apart from that he's looked fine.
He'll get fitter and better as he racks up more games.

Yeah still don't think he's quite Dyche fit just yet. More to come from him.

In the shop window already. BBC gave him MOTM and commented saying he seemlessly replaced an England international, can't wait for this window to close!
Looks like we have another great investment though.

You don't draw at Spurs with a weak link.

'Mee was the weakest link'
How anyone can come out with a statement like this is beyond me(e).
They are our centre back partners, up against some of the best strikers on the planet, who cost next to nowt between 'em. Of course there's going to be the odd mistake here and there - so what ? They both strike me as level headed, grounded individuals, who give their all for the Claret cause.
That's more than good enough for me.
I sometimes wonder what people want from Burnley FC.
UTC NNN.

Nowt changes about Burnley fans. We've always had a fair chunk of moaning, negative b#stards. Tarkowski will be fine. How do you get experience to be able to defend against the best? By playing against them. And to improve, you're going to get it wrong sometimes.

If Tarks continues his rate of improvement over the next 9 months at that of the last 4 games we'll have another 30 million pound defender. He, like the rest of the team is learning as he goes and in the PL there is nowhere to hide. He is already very good and I feel Dyche will easily get another 30% out of him tactically. Astute signing imho

James was given his chance at a starting slot this season and rightly so. We are only four games into the season, but he has definitely grabbed hold of that chance with both hands and put in some very good performances to make the place his own. More importantly, he is showing improvements in every single match and he still has a lot of untapped potential in the tank that will be released with more match experience.
He has stepped up to the plate and made a very strong case for himself. With only two years left on his current contract we could be looking at another one of those "30 m defender with only one year left on his contract" scenarios at the end of this season.
An immediate priority should be the negotiation of a new contact for James that will reflect his position as a first team regular and his value to the team.
I would still like to see us add another quality development candidate to the squad who can provide us with cover and challenge for the spot alongside Long. A young player with a current price tag that won't break the bank and provide us with reasonable scope for increasing his financial value.
Yup, I'm talking about a player along the lines of that Engels bloke again. With Tarks making a good account for himself and Long chomping on his heels I don't think we need to consider an older established player with little prospect of any future resale value.

I suspect that giving Kevin Long a new contract resolves that issue.
