A post overnight on Facebook claiming we have made a £8 m bid for Charlie Austin?? Can't see him wanting a return. Fan who wrote it quite irrate over it though. Any one else heard this one? Maybe has his strikers mixed up?

What an option he would be to come off the bench.

If we have then its a bid for the RIGHT striker
However can't see it happening - can't imagine he wants to come or that we want him. His goals dried up when Howe left due - in part - to Dyche's change of system. Although Dyche's initial system of trying to shore us up doesn't necessarily bear any resemblance 5 years later.

Austin made it clear that he didn't really like his time here, I don't think he will want to come back. I'm not sure he's a good aquisition anyway with his injury record.

Great striker. The one ex Burnley Striker I would like us to go back for.
The best goalscorer we have had in decades.

I'd have a
fit Danny Ings over a
fit Charlie Austin any day.

Did he? Seemed happy when he was scoring, but you must know something I haven't read or heard.

Would absolutely love a fit Austin back at Burnley.
The most lethal striker I have ever seen in a Claret shirt.

Nearest I've seen to Willie Irvine and he was the best I've witnessed playing for us.

Yeah but we don't have Trippier anymore, if we replaced Gudmundsson with a player with decent delivery from the right wing I think Austin would be a good signing. No disrespect to Gudmundsson, I personally just think the right-wing is our weakest position at the moment.

I'd go with that. I spotted Willie last week making his way out of the Darwen End after the cup win.

Ings is the best all round player and if your midfield isn't creative he would be the best option. Austin is an out and out goal scorer and with our current midfield I would rather have him because the likes of Brady and Defour would give him the ball in the right positions

Trippier cross, Austin header - goal. Repeat numerous times.
Those two together were bloody fantastic.

Saw a great photograph on here the other day with Willie's arms aloft at the Darwen End after scoring against them. Willie Morgan just about to congratulate him. Think it was the first goal in the 2-0 win on New Year's Day mid 60's. Recall another pitch invasion by one of theirs too but fortunately he didn't get close enough to Adam Blacklaw. His lucky day!

If you're thinking about the same penalty as me, I presume so as cannot think of another against Leicester, then Ings wouldn't have bottled it either.

I think the point being made is that Ings was our penalty taker at the time but, for whatever reason, allowed Taylor to take it.

To be honest given the state of the Rovers performance, Willie could have been making his way off the pitch at the final whistle

I'd take Chas back in a heartbeat. If we could go 4-4-2 then that's Austin and Wood up front.
Won't happen though.

Austin looked like he'd taken his game to the next level against us at St Mary's last season. Looked like he had added some all round passing skills to his game. £8m for him in this transfer market would be a steal.
Not that it's going to happen, like.

The thought of that header (against Millwall?) that he scored from the edge of the box still makes me smile.
How a man's neck can gain such traction still bewilders me.

He is as good as Harry Kane, probably better in terms of converting chances but won't play at the same level so will never be appreciated as such. Definitely the best striker at Turf Moor in almost 50 years.
Will we get him back? Unlikely I think with the wages he would be on at Southampton.

I think what happened there, and it isn't difficult to comprehend, is that Ings was generally our penalty taker and Taylor didn't play but then Taylor played and Taylor didn't usually play but was better at taking penalties than Ings so Taylor became our penalty taker and then we got a penalty and because Taylor was our best penalty taker Taylor took the penalty and Taylor missed the penalty.

He really isn't as good as or indeed better than Harry Kane in terms of converting chances.

I think it was more his Mrs that preferred to be nearer to home (rather than a dislike). I don't blame them for wanting to be nearer to home (Poole?), and if that is the case I can't see them coming back up here as much as I would love Charlie back with us.

Surely if he was as good as Harry Kane he would be playing at a top four club. Why wouldn't he play at the same level?

Austin has goal radar. Clinical and precise. Learned lots when he was here and went on to even better. If fit - excellent purchase.

Why?
He has spent a fair chunk of his time injured so arguably has never had the opportunity to fulfill his full potential. How many he would score with the same quality of service as Kane gets? I'm certain he is just as clinical as Harry Kane, whom I admire as a striker very much.
We will never know because as I said he will never play at the same level but to dismiss him outright is also ridiculous.

I'm not dismissing him outright. Austin is a very good striker but regardless of injuries is not in the same league as Kane - who is arguably one of the world's best.

As good as Harry Kane? Don't be a mentalist. He doesn't hold the ball up as well, doesn't have the dribbling ability, isn't as intelligent and doesn't score goals from outside the area.

So you weren't at Charlton then, obviously
And just what is an intelligent footballer? It's so obvious the better the team the better a player will look.
Austin has that knack of making scoring look easy, the instinct to get into position by his speed of thought and when you watch his history it's the little half step or drift to create space that can't really be taught. I'm not saying Harry Kane isn't a top striker but I have never seen Austin fluff his lines as often as Kane does.

I don't think that Austin's positioning and finishing is as good as Kane's. Is he better at attacking crosses with his head? Yes. But that's not Kane or Spurs' game so it's a pointless comparison.

In today's crazy market Kane would probably sell for £150M
Austin I would guess £20M
Austin as good as Kane I don't think so

I also don't think it goes without saying that a player will look better in a better team. I think that a poor player will be exposed and made to look poor in a good team. Granted, a striker will probably get more chances but I can't imagine Austin having the technical link-up play that Kane displays in his armoury.
