Anyine been recently?
Went for first time in a while last night and its been completely renovated. Has that just been done?
Looks and feels miles better and has some brand new, COMFORTABLE, seats. Last ones were well old and tatty. Jist realised its 20 plus years old now which is scary.
Anyway its massively improved and only £6.50 tuesday and wednesdays which is a bargain!
Usually go out of town bit will be more inclined to go there in future. Juat needs a nandos on site

There's been work going on there for months. It's been a £2 million project so I assume they are going to have to get some numbers through the door.
It is 20 years old, it had been opened a few weeks when I took my niece to see the first Mr Bean film and that was August 1997.

If ages ago means the last few months then yes it has. A drive through Burger King is nearly built as well in the same building.

It's good news if it is doing well. The town needs a cinema. Before that people were driving to the one at Pilsworth, Bury which was by the M66 but now closed down. Didn't know they were putting a Burger King in as well. Some time since there was one in Burnley.

I vaguely remember going to a Burnley cinema around 1970. Where was that?

Going tomorrow for the first time since renovation- taking the little one to see Cars 3.
There are always deals in Voucher Cloud and Groupon. We've got tickets for £4.60 each tomorrow.
Liar, Liar was my first film there!

I remember one being at the top of the ramp next to the market. Saw ET there when it came out.

The Burger King bit of the renovation may fall behind unfortunately as the franchise behind it is in administration. Not sure whether they'll keep developing it or not to be honest.

There was also a cinema in Rosegrove, think it closed in the 80s.

Still seem to be working on it. Won't Burger King just offer the franchise to someone else?

I went to see Dunkirk and it was literally a building site, I was amazed that they were actually open, or that health and safety didn't require patrons to wear a hard hat and a high-vis vest during the screening. Good to hear it's completed though, as people have said before, Burnley needs a cinema.

Is it The Empire Theatre you're thinking of or the old Burger King on the corner across from Game?
Burnley also used to have a Pizza Hut. Them were't days!

Studio 1-2-3 I think it was called. Next to the broadsword. Saw jaws and Star Wars there.
There was an odeon also. Memory tells me it was where the staples store is now. Could be wrong of course... memory tells me all sorts of shite these days.

Come on (literally????......) orange furry seats! How much muckment was rubbed into that? Doesn't bare thinking about. Can't remember the last film I saw there, but I remember them trying to vibrate the floor as part of the drama of watching the film Earthquake.

Studio 1-2-3 was fantastic, gad to go to Brierfield when that closed. Thing is it's just a vacant space and has been as far as I am aware since it closed

Yeah but it's not the real deal though is it.
The one in town was a restaurant (of sorts) and that makes it a bit more special.
I once had a birthday party there (EEEEEEEE when I were a lad

Most likely the Odeon, which closed in 1973. it was one of the most magnificent buildings in the area, (Art Deco style as many of these cinemas were).
It held over 2,000, (inc. over 1400 in the stalls).
It was a real shame that it was demolished, but I suppose it would have been difficult to maintain a building like that in Burnley once it was no longer viable as a cinema.
Many on here will recall how magnificent it was, and for those who don't know, it was just by the roundabout near the culvert, where there is now a Poundstretcher. (Some may recall that it was originally demolished for a Sainsburys, before Sainsbury's relocated to its present site).

Just googled Burnley Odeon as im too young to remember it.
What a magnificent looking building.
What utter crap it was replaced with.

As mentioned above it was a magnificent looking building what a shame it had to be pulled down. Ironically It's ugly neighbour - the Keirby Hotel is still standing.

And perhaps equally ironically, the Keirby was regarded as one of the most upmarket and trendy hotels in the region at that time.
When built in the early 60s it was apparently the only 4 star hotel in Lancashire - (outside of Manchester and Blackpool).

That would be it...Odeon big old cinema. The one above the market was a small multi screen replacement. Unit 4 opened in Brierfield around same time.

As a young teenager, I applied for a job at Unit 4 Cinema in Brierfield and in the interview was told ice-cream sellers had to be female. Apparently men wouldn't buy ice-cream from a man! The interviewer was a woman.

Great to see this old photos, my father was the manager of the Odeon from 1966 until its closure, so I spent some time in that place as a kid. Shame it was closed, but it was too big to be viable. My dad said it was considered for convertion by Rank for multiplexing but the public support at the time was poor. Still brings back good memories.
Saturday morning club and all that...

Here in Clevedon the local Cinema has been in continuous service now since 1912
https://www.curzon.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Anyone interested in Cinema, Listed Buildings and History should take a look.
They have not too long ago added a Bar/ Restaurant at the rear of the building, this has made the Cinema night experience so much better, and also means it's a full house most nights.

I'd been last year and it was in such a state. Arm rests missing, foam ripped, sticky seats etc. Okay that was one screen, but the others weren't much better, and I've been quite a bit.
Went in July and what a transformation. Miles better now, and everying is brand new. The seats are great and even things like the drink holders with plastic mesh bottoms, so you can put other things in without them falling through like on the old ones where you could only put large paper cups in.
There's also a drive through Burger King going next door as part of the revamp. Thought it was all due to be finished the end of this month anyway.

The last time I went to Burnley cinema was to see that Lock Stock film which has Vinny Jones in. Just before it started Shaun Ryder and Dexter Fletcher came in and sat in front of us. Bit odd as Fletcher was in the film.
Ryder was completely off his tits. It must have been during his ill-advised sojourn to Burnley to try and get off drugs. Anyway, good to hear it's doing well again.
