Barnes bid turned down.
Apologies if covered elsewhere but I haven't seen it. Burnley have turned down an £8m bid from Swansea for Ashley Barnes. Swansea are now expected to go after Bony.

That's what it says in today's daily telegraph. "They Expect to sign Wilfried Bony from Manchester City after an £8 million bid for Burnley,s Ashley Barnes was turned down."

Re: Barnes bid turned down.
I'm not convinced he is these days. He's a marked man. As soon as he jumps up for a challenge the opposition throw themselves to the ground, regardless of whether they've been touched (see Vertongen for Spurs on Sunday for the perfect example), and the referee falls for it. He's liable to pick up silly yellows as well (WBA game for example). I think he's been very effective in the past but sometimes you need to move on.bartons baggage wrote:He's worth more to us.

Hope he stays. Maybe Wells wants the number 10 shirt.

If Barnes decides it's time to move on then he goes with my blessings.
He's been a good player for us and gives 100% when on the pitch.

He's got some very obvious pros and cons but he's one of, possibly the most, skilful players we have. His ability to trap and lay off the ball quickly and accurately would be missed if he goes, even though he has the bizarre knack of looking ungainly while doing skilful things...

Re: Barnes bid turned down.
If we sign Wells sounds like he's out for a few weeks. Walters not fully recovered from the injury sustained at Rovers - and that's before you consider what Barnes actually offers us.
Can see Ash might consider a move if it meant more regular starts but would be very disappointed if he left today.

Re: Barnes bid turned down.
Why would we sell Barnes?
Without him we just have Vokes and Wood as Strikers
Aygei - going out on loan
Walters - Winger and occasional emergency striker
Wells - out for a few months
Just makes no sense, even if we sign another striker
Barnes is part of our fabric

Letting Barnes go to a relegation rival would be the worst business we could do today. The fact other teams around us want him complements itself.

Re: Barnes bid turned down.
If we end up paying £5m for Wells and selling Barnes for £8m I am not sure how anybody could say that is good business.
Barnes has done consistently well for us since he arrived and has been a key player in the Premier League for us.
Wells has never played in this league and has not pulled up any trees in the championship for the last few seasons.
5 strikers is not ideal but Walters is injured and Wells is either injured or not match fit.
We definitely do not need the cash and it does not sound like Barnes wants to leave either so selling him makes no sense to me

Re: Barnes bid turned down.
How do you know though if it is good business or not? Nobody can tell at this moment in time. Wells could come in and be a revelation, and Barnes could leave and do nothing at his new club.TVC15 wrote:If we end up paying £5m for Wells and selling Barnes for £8m I am not sure how anybody could say that is good business.

We will only know if this is good business when he has had a chance to bed in and actually play some games for Burnley.

Well I can't predict the future....but I can say whether I think it's good business and in this case I don't.Braindead wrote:How do you know though if it is good business or not? Using your rationale you could say that about any transfer dealings. Arsenal could sell Sanchez for £8m to Burton and Marvin Sordell could go the other way to Arsenal for £5m. Sanchez could do nothing for Burton and Sordell be a revelation for Arsenal as Wenger finally finds that missing link !
All of that "could" happen but there is not much evidence that it will - and that is what i am saying about bringing in Wells and selling Barnes.

Re: Barnes bid turned down.
Barnes for me is better than Vokes. We need a striker that gets stuck in, holds the ball up and puts pressure on opposition defences
To ship him out would be a mistake

No!! We can't sell the gangling sly git with the sociopathic stare.
I'll need to be pre prepared well in advance. Even if he's only coming off the bench to make opposition supporters burst blood vessels in anger, he has to stay.
