Funny how it is assumed that it will be difficult to sign a central defender because they cannot be guaranteed to be starting games. We seemingly have no trouble signing full backs and forwards. Are they all guaranteed starters? I wonder how many games Nakhi Wells will start this season?

Close the window, it's been a very productive one for us.

Let's go with what we have, we have all bases covered now.

A CB was an obvious need from the moment we let MK go but we didn't seem to make any effort at all apart from a half hearted enquiry on Shawcross. There was a big shout from people on Dawson and I was advocating Kalas or Jenkinson both of whom actually ended up out on loan. There was Liam Moore, Aden Flint and the guy from Sheff Weds from the Championship.

There are others for both positions but I can't be bothered to list them seeing as our recruitment team didn't seem bothered about trying to bid for them.
Can't believe the window's shut already. Trust the FA choose Burnley half day closing day for deadline day. No one likes us.

Oh, my apologies; I didn't realise you knew exactly what was going on behind the scenes as you obviously know which players we enquired about and those that we didn't. It looks like SD, the board and the recruitment team could learn a thing or two from you, I just hope they read this forum and give you a call. SD might even ask if you could help him run the team as he seems to be struggling without your help. Apologies again.

One of the only windows that ive found myself relatively happy.

Wood, Taylor and Cork are fantastic signings.

They are great deals. We have had a good window, I'm just very worried it will be undone by a piece of stupidity/naivity regarding the CB position.

Are we really getting swings and roundabouts?

That could be great for the younger Clarets. Do you think our new investors will push the boat out and stump up for a slide as well?

I think people need to lighten up a bit. We still have a few hours to go in this window and if nobody else arrives then we will just have to go with what we already have. Not much we can do about it and there is no point ranting and raving until the crap hits the fan - which fingers crossed it never will.

What planet are you on? Ward and Taylor are left backs. Put them in their best position. Long isnt a Premier League CB , we desperately need adequate cover in this position as an absolute minimum or in my opinion its a poor window considering the mountains of cash we have lying around. A huge gamble for no reason whatsoever.

Still hopeful but cant see any more bar lennon, theres been no links all day

We e only signed 1 player who was an improvement on what we had. That player is Jack Cork. Taylor looks a good replacement for Ward in the future.

Desperately short at Centre Back, it's ok though at least we've signed a 3rd choice goalkeeper and some
Other old has(never)beens as back up elsewhere.

I'd have been reasonably happy with Wells if we were a championship club.

Absolutely!

All bases covered? That's nonsense, if one of our centre halves gets injured, then we are left without any centre halves on the bench.

Taylor/ward/cork are not centre halves , nor are they adequate stop gaps until January.

Imagine putting Cork at centre half, then we have zero central midfield players on the bench, if we assumed that Westwood would move in there.

The domino effect of injuries to our centre backs would in my opinion hurt us in other areas too.

Not long left now to get a centre half in and all the signs indicate that we wont

Tarkowski is a cut above them two and I'm sure neither are any better than Kevin Long.
Aye they survived but they shipped loads of goals,we stayed up last season mainly down to digging out results against the bottom-half teams, especially
at the turf, the difference this season might be we have to score 2 goals to win some of those games,i guess the Palace game will be a barometer.

Palace started shipping loads of goals once Mamadou Sakho got injured.

Palace stayed up DESPITE having Scott Dann and Damien Delaney at the heart of their defence.

Happy with all the signings we've brought in.

Would like another winger.
Plus very surprised they appear to be gambling at centre back in a similar way in which they did with central midfield a couple of years back.

I'm neither happy or disappointed with our transfers, could be better and could be worse. I'm still gobsmacked that we're going with Kevin Long as our only back up CB, if Tark and Mee both get injured (which could happen) then our defense will really struggle and could come back to bite us in the bum.

Even if it was just Mee missing, we all saw with our own eyes how the Long/Tark partnership worked last year, it was dreadful.

A right winger I'm less worried about, Walters can play wide and Brady can switch to the right with arfield coming in. That said I'd love Lennon to sign.

I don't think it's arguable that we need cb cover however. And not just cover, but someone pushing for a start. It's not just injury either but form. Tarkowski has started well but if he has a few stinkers, the lads still young and inexperienced. We need the option of resting him. Someone with experience of the premier league would be great and would top off a good window. Our other business has been really good.
