The phrase Russian Roulette comes to mind, with the CB situation, yet we seem top-heavy with strikers we are ruining what looked like a promising transfer window. If we don't have another defender coming in i will be but the signs are not hopeful.Vegas Claret wrote:IF that's it then we have taken a massive gamble at CB

Darikwa can play right wing, you know.
If Taylor can also play up front he can be our new Graham Branch.

If we closed the window now, I'd be more than happy with our business. Listen to Mr Garlicks interview again, every word was spot on.
Definitely have enough to stop up, without jeopardising the clubs future or becoming the next Blackpool.

Really ?ClaretAL wrote:We have 5 players that can play the position, what is the issue?
One can't stop being loaned out and to low league teams at that. One is still not been consistently tested in the Prem and one hardly ever gets a game in the first team. If we lose one of our main CB's we are in real trouble relying on the cover we currently have. It really is a complete nonsense and a massive gamble which could have dire consequences for the club. The lack of recruitment at CB is rank bad management and I don't care if that means calling out SD over it. Poor strategy pure and simple.

Cork linking up brilliantly with DefourLaLigaClaret wrote:If that is it for incomings then this has to be considered as being simply not good enough.
Taylor an exciting challenger to ward
Walters experienced cover up front
Bardsley experienced cover at right back
Wood quick and powerful goal scorer
Wells good foil for Vokes or Wood
Granted CB cover would be helpful, but all in all a very satisfactory window in my honest opinion.

Top heavy and light at the back. Can see a swap deals for Barnes on the cards. Were West Brom rumoured to be interested in him? Barnes plus 5-10 mill for Dawson?
Would you be happy with the window then?

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
More than happy with every other signing we have made but genuinely shocked that a CB hasn't been seen as number 1 priority since we knew we were losing Keane. I get that we should have faith in Dyche after everything but I am shocked he thinks we have enough....we are a Ben Mee injury away from disaster

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
Dyche gambled and lost when he failed to strengthen a sparse Burnley midfield in the January window only to see Marney pick up a long term injury immediately the window closed ruling him out for the rest of that season.
Those that fail to learn the lessons from history risk repeating the same mistakes (this time gambling with the CB"S staying fully fit and always available).
No need for such a reckless gamble to be taken although just limiting ourselves to the British market severely limits our options and results in us being priced out of deals due to high wage demands in many instances.

What is totally believable is that our recruitment for cover or challenge at CB is completely ludicrous. What is believable that we didn't replace Boyd with a decent winger, you know the same right winger fans have been banging on about for at least three years that we have needed.ClaretTony wrote:Unbelievable
What is unbelievable is that we haven't spent money recruiting two more players that could and would make a huge difference to the team even though it is abundantly obvious we haven't even spent a penny of the transfer budget that was supposed to have been available. So yes CT is isn't good enough.

even if no-one else comes in, we'll be just fine and dandy this season. Ideally we'd have brought in another CB...we haven't. Hey ho, we have more than enough quality to do well.

Lennon if Miralles stays at Everton. Looks like plenty of deals will go late this window. Would be far easier for us all if they had the window from July 1st for a week. No mucking about, no complaining the window is difficult, just get the deals done in a week and get on with itSteve-Harpers-perm wrote:Nixon tweeted we are still working on a deal for a winger.

Obviously there is some risk with injuries, but let's face it our first eleven is a good solid mid-table prem side, as the first three games have shown.LaLigaClaret wrote:What is totally believable is that our recruitment for cover or challenge at CB is completely ludicrous. Agreed. Very quietly confident about mid table. Much rather be in our shoes than Brighton, Stoke, West ham, Swansea, Newcastle...Spijed wrote:Obviously there is some risk with injuries, but let's face it our first eleven is a good solid mid-table prem side, as the first three games have shown.

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
Time to pass the phone over to Chris Wood and ask him to sort us out.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... r-him.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
‘If anyone could mark me out of a game then it would definitely be my sister,’ says the 6ft 3in frontman.
Was that a joke? It appears not. Wood recalls his childhood in Auckland with older sister Chelsey, who would go on to star for New Zealand at two Under 20 World Cups.
‘She was better than me for a very long time and technically she probably still is,’ says Wood, who became his country’s youngest captain at 23.
‘We played together in all our junior teams. Looking back it’s amazing we could do that.
‘She was a centre back and went on to do great things, but she’s also the brains of the family. She did an optometry degree and has her own career as an optician now.
It's bit dicey relying on 3 specialist CB's and crossing our fingers that nothing untoward happens to any of them.
Did we really have nobody in mind for this window or did we miss out on someone?
Lucky rabbits feet and four leaf clovers will be available to buy in the club shop starting tomorrow.

Tarkowski is a cut above them two and I'm sure neither are any better than Kevin Long.

I think the difficulty is bring in a player who knows he is going to be 4th choice.
A loan with view to buy of a kid would probably be the only way to go.

I don't think Wells has been in to be 4th choice. He's totally different to what we currently have because he has some pace (although not as much as some are making out). I don't expect him to start often but if we need to inject a bit of pace into the game hes the man

Palace just about survived in the Premiership for another season having been in a comfortable position until the injury to Central Defender Mamadou Sakho.
Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
Last season we had Keane, Mee and Tarks. Did Long return after Christmas? Now we have Long as back up. It will be a struggle to sign a CB for the bench as we are unlikely to sign a starter. Maybe a loan of a youngster possible?

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
As most fans seem to think a CB and a Right Winger, not exactly rocket science. There are lots of players out there right across Europe and the UK. Given the funds available we could have tried Grosicki, Snodgrass, Lennon, Townsend, a loan for Markovich etc.BennyD wrote:Which two players? Who would you have brought in?
A CB was an obvious need from the moment we let MK go but we didn't seem to make any effort at all apart from a half hearted enquiry on Shawcross. There was a big shout from people on Dawson and I was advocating Kalas or Jenkinson both of whom actually ended up out on loan. There was Liam Moore, Aden Flint and the guy from Sheff Weds from the Championship.
There are others for both positions but I can't be bothered to list them seeing as our recruitment team didn't seem bothered about trying to bid for them.
