This is so funny. Brighton reporter confirms that both striker deals they had in play, had fallen through.

On the all, I think we had an excellent transfer window. Shame about a winger to replace Boyd though.

How can Brady replace Boyd when they were in the same ******* team 4 months ago?
Is he going to play on the left and the right at once?

We need to let go of this idea of one player replacing another. You want cover for each position but trying to trace back who has replaced who since 2012 seems a bit futile.

A year ago, Boyd and Arfield were wingers. Now it's Brady and Gudmondsson. Whether Brady has replaced Boyd or not is purely because you're defining "replaced" more narrowly than me.

So we've gone from our wingers being
Boyd
Brady
Gudmundsson
Arfield at a stretch
and now they are
Brady
Gudmondsson
Arfield
Brady hasn't replaced Boyd has he?
He was on the first list! How on earth can Brady replace Boyd?

Back end of last season, Boyd was in the team, Brady was sub. Now Brady is in the team.

What was that comment about Real Madrid that one of their deluded posters made a few months ago? I can't remember now but it was hilarious. I was on the Watford forum at the weekend looking for their thoughts on Gray and they were saying similar things about Brighton fans.

So who is Brady's replacement (even though he hasn't left, so actually it boils down to who is Boyd's replacement)?

Walters and Barnes both play on the flank too from time to time.
I think we can say we've replaced Boyd..

So we'll play Walters and Barnes on the flanks, Cork and Taylor at centre back, and Tarkowski in midfield.
How about we just play players in their proper positions, and have enough players to cover those positions.

Absolutely, Kings can also be just as dramatic.

Lets just stop right there.
You're having a tantrum and I'll be honest, I can't be bothered with that today, you're already irritating me with it.
Boyd has gone, get over it.
We've got players who have proven they can play in more than one position for us and other clubs.
It's quite common at other clubs for managers to utilize this aspect with some players so Dyche is quite right to do the same.
The window hasn't been perfect, but it could've been a whole lot worse.
However we are in a better position than a number of clubs, see Newcastle and Brighton for example.
Real issues at other clubs too.
Go and lie down, maybe take a nap until you've calmed down...

Now that we've got the option to playing 3 in the middle with 2 out wide, the potential pool of wide players can be picked from
Traditional:
Brady
JBG
Arfield
When we are either chasing a game / need to win against similar opposition
Walters
Barnes
wells? - I'm not sure about him whether he can play that role
So potentially 6 players for 2 slots depending on the match situation.
When playing 4-4-2 we were limited into having defensive wide men in that role, hence why Brady hardly got any game time.
4-5-1 / 4-3-3 seems to fit our squad better at the mo

Who replaced Kightley?

You can't replace Boyd with like for like for all sorts of reasons, and because of the way in which Dyche employed him, but it could be argued that any out of Ward, Taylor and Arfield, are more than adequate in his "defensive" role, and that Brady, Gudmundson and Walters more than adequate replacements in an attacking sense. He wasn't an attacking winger in the Kightly sense.
In any case our framework has changed somewhat this season anyway.
Incidentally Boyd doesn't appear to be doing very well at Wednesday, though I haven't actually watched their games.

And nor should we replace Boyd like for like.
The longer we stay in the premier league the more we need to evolve and IMO that means we need to get better at attacking whilst still remaining solid at the back. I think with the players we now have we are starting to see very positive signs of this.

We didn't need to replace Boyd like for like. We're playing a different formation therefore the defensive requirements of the wingers isn't the same. For what it's worth I suspect Walters and Barnes will be utilised as wide players now so we've actually got 5 who can fill those places.

I think Brighton could easily be the team cut adrift by Christmas. Which would be a shame for Chris Hughton but great nevertheless.

I enjoyed our trip there two seasons ago. Really liked the idea of keeping the refreshment places open after the game while the crowds (I was going to say dispersed but "moved onto the railway station " would be more acurate). But I too would like to see them straight back down because of their whingeing entitled fans.

Agreed, but I think hanging around the ground would have been much less fun if we hadn't just scored a last minute equaliser.

Brighton remind me of us in Dyche's first Premier League season, organised neat tidy possession, but no cutting edge, hell they couldn't even break down 10 man Watford last week,i can't see where the 10/11 wins they would need for survival is coming from. All the better for everyone else including us,in addition i can see other clubs eyeing up Chris Hughton.

Brighton fans have already sh!t the bed, theyre all talking about being "like Derby" "goinf down without a fight" etc etc and they also talk of wanting "big names"

After all their bluster and shiny new stadium talk and "europe in 3 yrs" guff it's gonna be hilarious if they crumble like white dog poo.
Houghton deserves better than this load of plastics.A Man city mate of mine described their ground atmosphere as sounding like "a big version one of those god awful childrens play centres"

Brighton fan I know who mocked me when they beat Barnsley once also mocked me twice most recently when we were relegated and last time mocked me when they missed out on promotion compared to us saying we would just go back down.
It would just be perfect if they got relegated. They may be playing defensively now but they don't have the practice playing that way in the Championship having always been more of an attacking side. With the premier league experience that we have compared to them hopefully it will mean they flop.
Sad thing is it was all or nothing for them last season and they managed it

, if they didn't they would be in a financial mess and probably under an embargo for FFP. They literally have done a QPR.
It just doesn't make sense, FFP still doesn't stop clubs from paying over the odds and they simply get a get out of jail free card when they get promoted.
Oh and they got a free stadium too.
Sod em, hate them more than Blackburn personally. Deluded bunch of fans...and when I lived in Southampton I thought their fans were bad
