All-Ireland Hurling Final(s)

The Minor and Senior Hurling finals are both being played at Croker today, with Cork and Galway competing in the Minor final and the Senior showdown between Waterford and Galway.
It was a promising campaign for Wexford this year, but it came to an end in the Semis against Waterford in July. I'll be supporting Waterford today, but I'm sure Tribesmen won't!
Anyways, the Senior Final is on Sky Arena (starting at 3:30), if any Clarets fancy experimenting!

Tried my hand at Hurling way back, when briefly at school over there in Co Wexford in the mid 60s.
It's harder than it looks!
I wasn't very good.....
Think I was considered 'dangerous' with a hurling stick!

I've shouted out for Cork ever since we came over but today it's Waterford all the way.
4 local lads, to us, on the panel. Gawan the Deise.

At half time in the Minor final it's Cork 2-07 Galway 0-10, or 13-10 to Cork.

Yes, it'll certainly be interesting to see two counties other than Kilkenny and Tipperary involved!
Cork 2-15 Galway 2-17 at full time in the Minor final, quite a game.

Galway destroyed Wexford in the Leinster Final and if they play the same against Waterford I would say they will struggle, however I have no favourite either way, may the best team win.

Half time in the final and it's Galway 14-0 Waterford 2-07, or 14 to 13.
Excellent game.

And it finishes Galway 26-0 Waterford 2-17. An incredible game, with Galway crowned as the hurlers of Ireland.

Watched some of the game and enjoyed it. No crowd segregation was great to see. Just curious about the 'goalkeepers' and their role in the team. Are saves actually made by them? Genuinely curious.

I thought it was a thread about what happens if you drink too much Guiness.

Certainly. Their hurleys are larger, and they often stop shots- although, in a game I saw earlier this year, the Kilkenny keeper made a save with his helmet!

The best are amazing. A sliotar is similar to a cricket ball and I've seen it blasted at goal from close in and they make a save with hurl, free hand or body.

And that ball moves at some speed I imagine. Isn't hurling reportedly the fastest sport played on grass?

That would be a hard one to call but when they can knock a sliotar 100yds it's certainly end to end. I thought I read once it was lacrosse?

Great result for Galway - very well done. Now all we need is for Mayo to break the 66 year old curse in 2 weeks time to lift the Sam Maguire trophy!!

Watched a bit of it yesterday.
What a game. I use the word game for want of a better turn of phrase. Certainly not played by the faint-hearted.
Could teach a few footballers a thing or two about having a strong jaw.
Did SD ever play this ?

Well Tribesmen, you may have heard this question before too, but:
If you live in Galway but hate the GAA with a passion, why exactly are you called Tribesmen?
