World Cup In Russia 2018
Thinking of going and budgeting for this never been Russia and I would think security would be at a all time high so no worries for me about what happened in Marseille.
I think this young team is set for great things a head and Gareth Southgate will get it right had my doubts but he seems to be forming a team that just might achieve something.
Anybody else contemplating going and what's your take now we are virtually their.

I'm not sure which of the two I should be more concerned about, that you think there will be no concerns for English football fans in Russia or that you actually think Gareth Southgate will get it right.

I couldn't even be bothered to switch channels on Monday evening to watch the inept Southgate's dull team, never mind go to Russia to watch them.

England will get through the group and lose in the next round .. I would be very surprised if the authorities over there managed to maintain an acceptable level of safety.

Are you mad?
There are insane people who won't travel to London because of overblown fears of terrorism, yet you are thinking of going to Russia for a guaranteed kicking from a bunch of white supremacists?

Re: World Cup In Russia 2018
Lost interest in England national team last summer. But will probably come back once we qualify.
Will probably go out for the groups. Cancelled my membership but tickets should be easy enough to come by.
Scare stories come out every time. Ukraine and Poland was fine.
Marseille was easy to avoid the trouble if you wanted to.
Russia will be fine.

We will see, done good so far I was one of his biggest critics when appointed but I can see him fashioning a team to do well and find a systems to win matches differently
And the security will be top notch not bothered in the slightest about that just can see a better tournament for us here and a lot will be surprised you will see.

I thought the trouble in France was KGB co-ordinated? It'll be much easier for them on home soil.
Wouldn't go near the place.

Re: World Cup In Russia 2018
I've been to Russia 3 times. My observations as a normal business traveller in Moscow.
Hotels of any half decent quality are extortionate in cost, most quoted in dollars, so with the exchange rate now even worse it will be even worse.
Even in a good quality hotel you're likely to get woken up as the concierges know where the foreign tourists are and pass your details (for a cut of proceeds) to the pimps. Unplug the phone, and ignore any knocks on the door. I can only see this getting worse during the WC.
Taxis cost a lot!
.......Always use a taxi to get around.
Life is cheap there, so don't carry too much of value.
Your biggest worry won't be football violence, just ordinary crime.

Not sure about that. If Putin and his 'security forces' want it to pass off without too much bother, it probably will. The Enclosure wrote:You must be crazy to go anywhere near Russia during the World Cup it will be carnage on a massive scale.
It's our mindnumbingly dull team and hapless manager which will make the trip a disappointment. I do fancy going to Russia one day, must be some fascinating places, but not while another dreary FIFA Cup is going on.

Re: World Cup In Russia 2018
The British press will do their usual and stoke up expectations far beyond what we can deliver. Any place for England after escaping the group stages would be a bonus. It always ends in tears though sadly for us.

The British press will also do their best to stoke up tensions with the local thugs, of which there are many.

England fans will be killed next year in Russia. Members of the Kremlin actually condoned the Russian hooligans in France last year.
If you go , make sure you get the best possible travel and life insurance.

Re: World Cup In Russia 2018
We've just had World Cups in Brazil and South Africa.... Russia will be an absolute doddle in comparison. I never realised you were all such a bunch of pussies.
In all seriousness you've got to trust Putin on this one. He only wants the world cup to make Russia look good, and that won't happen if all the fans get robbed and beaten up. He'll round up the most dangerous thugs beforehand and keep tabs on the others. It'll go down without a hitch.

Re: World Cup In Russia 2018
I've been a few times for work and I must say in Moscow I found the subway to be fine. The one time I used a taxi was much more hassle than the subway (including public transport to the airport). Traffic in Moscow is absolutely terrible and getting a taxi will take ages.claret wizard wrote:I've been to Russia 3 times. My observations as a normal business traveller in Moscow.

A lot of the metro stations also look spectacular, I spent one evening going around the Koltsevaya Line hopping off at each stop to look at the stations. Missing out on these would be a shame:

You couldn't pay me to go to Russia next summer, those thinking that security will be good are ******* delusional. Those thinking that England might do well are even more so

Forget the security. Common sense alone avoided trouble in marseille.
It was as ever a small percent of russians that were involved in bother.
