I was a participant on tipping point a few years ago (got to the final 2).

In the "quickfire" round - the bloke next to me got 0 correct answers and I was cringing at some of the questions he couldnt answer. The one that sticks in my mind is "which martial artist starred in the movie Enter the Dragon and (another movie which escapes me now).

I do still get stick for going out on the question "What is the capital of Brazil....."

I said Rio - it's Brasilia

I wouldn't worry about it. There was a guy on there the other day who couldn't tell them where Rhodes was.

If you covered your eyes and just listened to the program, when the coin machine is in play, you would swear you were watching/listening to a porno :D

Not surprised by that at all.
I'm from a generation where we studied maps at school and we learnt countries, capitals, rivers etc. This sort of teaching largely disappeared in recent decades. Towards the end of my teaching career it was my experience that the vast majority of students (aged 16-18), had no idea where places were, and that includes places they had visited.
Any holiday was accessed via the airport, and once the plane landed, Rhodes could as easily be in the Caribbean as the Mediterranean (or even the Aegean).
Even giving clues such as which language was spoken locally was of no help in many cases, as they made no attempt to use it whilst abroad.

That really doesn't surprise me. I'm 27 so I'm not sure if I'm in that bracket of era but I had a girl tell me a few years ago that the capital of Spain was Brazil and I am not joking. It's really not hard to find out where places are. I blame reality tv for making being thick cool.

Question: What day is Christmas day traditionally celebrated in the UK?
Answer: Wednesday

I spent about 5 mins in shock and laughing other day when missus went "so, what's a continent? ....... Followed by "isn't Africa just one big country though?"

Shocked me that someone wouldnt know that

Almost as pointless as pointless.

Utterly shite tv. Written by idiots, presented by boring buffoons.

Mastermind or UC. That's it. The rest are shite.

I quite like the chase. The most I have ever got right on UC is 7. It makes me feel stupid

I like The Chase, Eggheads and QI. Tipping Point isn't so much about the questions, it's about the counters, which I imagine is why they're so straightforward. I liked the Question Jury when that was on.
