Re: best and worst goalkeepers since watching Burnley
Best is Heaton or/and Stevenson in his prime. Worst: I would unfortunately have to say Billy O'Rourke and Mark Kendall, despite the fact that in the bigger picture they were taken away before their time as human beings, God rest their souls.
There can't be too many keepers who were beaten from a drop kick by the opposition goalie, who almost had two but for the top of the crossbar.
By all acounts Billy was a nice bloke but a shocker of a no 1.

Mark Kendal takes the prize for worst. His displays at Derby and Blackpool were shocking.

Given we brought him all the way from South America, the most disappointing has to be Diego Penny. Also, I don't think that Cennammo lad was a goalkeeper at all!
Best for me will always be my hero, Sir Adam Blacklaw!

Another vote for Kendal.
Can't remember if it was Boxing Day or New Year's Day but that trip to Blackpool was gutting.
Wonder if there's any footage out there for the masochists amongst us?

Great debut at Huddersfield Nicko!
Re: best and worst goalkeepers since watching Burnley
From watching live the best without doubt is Heaton and the worst is Mark Kendall closely followed by Wayne Russell.
I only saw Penny against Wigan and I don't think he conceded!!

Nicko was a great keeper until one day he let in a long range effort... then a week later he did it again, then the weakness was revealed

Re: best and worst goalkeepers since watching Burnley
I think it goes to show what generations are using the forum. Since the 90's we've been OK with keepers in general, relative to the quality of the team.
Niko, Coyne, Woods were hardly terrible, Kiraly was a nuts though
Lee Grant is the forgotten man in this thread though

Re: best and worst goalkeepers since watching Burnley
All opinions garnered by how many times and at what stage they were with us of course.
Best:
Adam Blacklaw, we won the 1st Division title with him.
NIcky Walker, only played about 7 games for us whilst on loan (I saw them all I think) but he really did boss the defence and his area.
Tom Heaton looses rank because of his lack of dominance in his area.
Worst:
Mark Kendall, our so called goalkeeping coach and yes that 5-2 performance at Blackpool was awful.
Billy O' Rourke, QPR away 7-0 and then home to watch it all again on MOD or was it on Sunday afternoon. Incidentally Burnley actually had just about the same amount of chances on goal as QPR but no matter what they did they just couldn't score I'll never forget that.
Beresford and Pearce at the end of their time with us.

Well at least Billy O´Rourke got to play for the Clarets. That´s more than thousands of us can say.

Re: best and worst goalkeepers since watching Burnley
I'll not consider anyone who only played a small number of games although accept that Kendall's performance at Blackpool ranks amongst the worst.
My best three
Adam Blacklaw
Tom Heaton
Alan Stevenson
Heaton now above Stevenson on my list. Will he ever go past Adam? No chance.
Worst three
Joe Neenan
Chris Pearce
Nik Michipoulos
Close call for third place between NTG & Roger Hansbury but the worst two are well clear on my list.

Re: best and worst goalkeepers since watching Burnley
Saw Luigi in his one and only appearance replacing Nik at Cheltenham. He looked small for a keeper and his stats were two shots, two goals, didn't play again.KlyBfc wrote: Didn't see Penney play and don't remember if I saw Luigi cenamo grace the pitch in any form of contest
I was sulking when Grant left. I'd forgotten about him until the reminder further up the thread. Just goes to show, we keep moving on.

Best: Stevenson, Heaton and Marriott with a VERY honourable mention for Nicky walker who may only have played 7? games, but they were massively important games in our promotion season (Mansfield away in a hurricane force wind was one I think?) and would have been a fantastic permanent signing if only.....
Worst: Kendal ( I was also at Blackpool on THAT day!)

I never ever understood all the praise Beresford got and still think selling him and bringing in Woods kept us up in 1998.claptrappers_union wrote:Here's some quality keeping - Niko on the first half, Marlon in the second -

This link was the last time Michopoulos and him played for us on the Turf. It's the worst afternoon of goalkeeping I've ever witnessed.

Wayne Russell was second choice for most of the time,I recall him taking training sessions with young goalies at gawthorpe.I thought he was an ok guy and it appears he went on to pick up winners medals and played in the champions league so he must have had something about him.burnmark wrote:From watching live the best without doubt is Heaton and the worst is Mark Kendall closely followed by Wayne Russell.

You've chosen Blacklaw as the best, fair enough.
Then you've chosen Walker above Heaton and made a comment about Heaton's supposed deficiency, so the question is (again)....
