Not a bad first game, going on 41 years back! 4-1 down with 18 minutes to go. No wonder I was hooked for life!

Some uncertainty about the date of my first game and sadly I now have no-one to ask. Think it must have been a league game in the '54/'55 season which puts me in my 63rd season of watching the Clarets.

The first game I vividly remember was an FA Cup tie against Chelsea in the '55/'56 season which we drew 1-1 which I watched from a bench in front of the Enclosure in front of the old Brunshaw Road stand. We also drew the replay 1-1 and I remember running to meet my Dad from his work to say that the next replay would be at Turf Moor only for him to disappoint me and say the game would be at a neutral ground. It took three more replays to settle the tie and Chelsea eventually won 2-0 at Tottenham's ground.

A long time to be devoted to your football team and still have a season ticket, but I recall a thread on here (perhaps on New Years Eve last year) asking for anyone with their recollections of the FA Cup Final in 1962. I posted mine but incredibly a poster, think it may have been wyk, who actually attended the Final in 1947 and described his memories of the day. Absolutely awesome, and fair play to the guy.

First game i have memories of is wolves at wembley 88. First vivid memorys are york away 92, sheff utd away in the fa cup around the same time and bristol rovers away 1993. It was probably because of the occasions rather than anything else as i went to most games around that era but its happen a good job i cant remember.

Remember the philiskirk game against barnet. Port vale in division 1. Middlesbrough same season think we were on itv.

Most of the games from the end of mullen until stans era were forgettable.

Don't know the dates or matches but my dad first took me on in 1951,so I believe that's 66 years ago. I started watching the Clarets on a regular basis in the 57/58 season, which is slightly before the great team of the 60s. Shannon, Newlands, Seith, McDonald were regulars. It only seems like yesterday though.

The first one I remember was home to Millwall, 2-0 win, april 22nd 1972. My mother tops the poll so far, though - she's just passed her 70 th anniversary, 26th August 1947 v Derby County, 0-2. She says it was a better game than Sunday's!

I once met a lady (dead now, of course) who went on to Turf Moor before the first world war. She was in the stand, and they served tea and cakes at half time. Tommy Boyle was captain. That's all she could remember - she wasn't a football fan.

August 1965 Burnley v Blackpool 3-1 win to us I was 6 at the time went on several games that season, I think there was something about if you attended so many matches you could purchase tickets for the world cup. Not for me but my Dad cheers Dad for not taking me to world cup games, he went with his mates lol.
Thats 51 years of being a claret. In that year some clubs that we would play in lower leagues were Northampton, Doncaster, Blackpool, Leeds , Sunderland and one other club forgot name I think they are playing in diversion 3 now (old money)

1st November 1958 at home to Forest and we lost 0-2. Went again two weeks later v Wolves at home and lost again 0-2. Ironically, in between those two games we were away at Man Utd. and won 3-1 but I was only 6 years old and not allowed to go. I'm 65 now and have yet to see us win at Old Trafford despite a couple more wins soon after that game and numerous visits since. We've come close, very close from the mid 60's to the mid 70's but a series of very late goals by them have ' done for us'. Still time though!

Man Utd. 2 Burnley 1 aged 6. FA CUP 5TH Round

Quite a game to start with. Remember being perched on my sky-blue buffet leaning on the picket fence that skirted the United Road paddock from about 1pm. Went with my mum and dad. I suspect it was a case of, ....if you're going, me and the lad are coming too! :D

Other than that memories are hazy but recall us being 1-up with 10 minutes to go and then two late goals, one laid on by Best with only one boot on (or did I imagine that?), sunk us. It was destined to not be the last time that I had my heart broken by late United goals at Old Trafford.

52 years and counting!

Was there that day too. In the Stretford End high up to the right. Think that was the beginning of an amazing run of games against them over the next ten years or so where very late goals by them as you say 'broke our hearts'.

47 years for me too. Sat 31 Oct 1970 Burnley 2 - 1 Crystal Palace (missed the second half as I fell asleep in my dad's arms... I was 4), although I didn't start going on the Turf regularly until 4 years later, when we moved back to Burnley from Canada.

18th April 1961 West Ham 2 v 2 draw. 7 years old I remember wanting to go home at half time because I was fed up and it was cold. I was made to stay till the end thankfully. Bloody knackered when I got home.

My Uncle took me to Maine Rd in May 1960 for my first game. Remember almost nothing about it and didn't get to another BFC game for around 2 years as my dad didn't think I was old enough until then (he was a former Crewe reserve team player and a lifelong supporter!). One could say that my Burnley supporting life has been one of disappointment waiting for us to reach the level I started at!! :o :o

Was that the match where Bob Wilson broke his arm? If it was I watched from the Bee Hole End and I don't know why but two Gunner fans took a risk and watched from there as well.

Maybe another old fart could verify if that was the match.

September 1956....played Sheffield Wednesday at home....score from memory was a 4-1 win...I was 12 years old at the time and was hooked on the Clarets from that day forward...always used to stand on the Bee Hole End and if i was feeling flush went in the enclosure (hence the forum name) Think in those days it was an extra shilling to go in the enclosure ( 5 p in todays money)

10th Nov 1973 was my first game at Turf Moor 0-0 v Weeds (tho living in gloucestershire I'd been to Bristol City, Swindon Town, Cardiff & Oxford twice each in the previous two seasons and seen 7 Burnley wins and one draw, 12 Burnley goals and only 2 conceded). My second game at home was 8 years later after my parents split and my dad moved to Burnley and sponsored the Match Ball v Swindon in 1981, he got me to present it to the referee before the game (still have it signed by all the team) again this finished 0-0. It wasn't until I moved up north in Jan 82' that I finally saw a goal at the hallowed turf.

I cannot clearly remember my first game but my earliest memory of a match I attended is an FA Cup game v QPR which the clarets won 6 nil. They went on from there to the 1962 final. (It is a little risky going from long term memory. I hope I'm right!)
