Anyone else popped their central heating on?
Woke up, lit a fag at about 5.30am and thought 'ok, enough's enough'. Sat there shivering my booty off. Been wanting to turn it on for a while now but hung in there like a trooper. Anyone else finally succumb?!

Yes. I don't sleep well and am often up in the middle of the night. The temperatures have been well down so the heating is on. Tonight I intend to be warm

My heating has just allowed my fingers to operate and tell you this ground breaking factoid! Other than that. I was busy working, but seeing as we Brits have an obsession with weather and when to put the heating on. I broke down and did.Dyched wrote:how did you manage to keep something this exciting quite for nearly 16 hours.

What do you mean turn it on? It just comes on if it goes below a certain temperature. Different temperateures set for different times of the day.

I don't know about you but I don't have my boiler set for cataclysmic temperature drops in mid July, so we turn ours off. Comes on about late September though not actually switched on to power up 'til today.skibum84 wrote:What do you mean turn it on? It just comes on if it goes below a certain temperature. I started off that way but my Mum was a cold person too so I twigged she'd have the fire on. Which she usually did. I got dressed first obviously but was straight downstairs.spadesclaret wrote:As a child I became an expert at getting dressed under the bedclothes.

Re: Anyone else popped their central heating on?
No point having it if you won't use it.
Programmer set at on 24/7 thermostats do the rest, it comes on when the temperature drops.
Steady temperature around 21°C with two air changes per hour is better for the fabric of your home, your comfort and your health, prevents black spot mould, condensation etc.

Don't know if you're old enough to remember the Man City cup game in 1991, but that was a bloody cold day. Packed stadium and quite honestly was glad for the body warmth of those around. Ventilation is the key to condensation.

Winter of 62/63 was the worst. I don't think we shifted the ice from the inside of the bedroom window for weeks. Chilblains from Jan thru the end of March - and a hot water bottle. I second that about the Peterborough game. I got an abcess after that. Another cold game was a game I remember at Coventry around 2004 at the Ricoh arena. Absolutely freezing and we lost. I feel the cold very easily (unless I'm ******) so if it has to go on it goes on.

Yes. My 14 yr old daughter put the heating on 1st, followed a couple of days later by Mrs Woodgnome. I HAVE YET TO SWITCH IT ON MYSELF.
