Anyone else think the Police were unnecessarily heavy handed today? Why the need for long batons? Why did they eject young lads from the Burnley bar area inside the ground before the game who were clearly just enjoying themselves? All they were doing as far as I could make out was singing and jumping in the air whilst holding beer glasses causing some drink to spill. Did that justify the decision to forcibly eject two without warning? I saw a woman a young lad led out. Not sure if they were also ejected but it did look that way. And then several Police stood right in the midst of the singing Clarets fans which I thought was unwarranted and simply provocative. Surely all it needed was some sensible policing from a distance without stopping those lads having fun. I very much doubt there would have been any trouble had they taken that softer approach. Shame!

I'm not justifying police behaviour today because I wasn't there but I'm curious to know the answer to my question.

I'm never keen on people spilling beer over me, whatever the occasion and wherever the venue.

They must be getting too much pocket money, buy a beer for £4 and then throw it up in the air with the hope of a you tube appearance.

Thought the police were fine today TBH. Seemed to be friendly enough talking and laughing with Our fans, and keeping a low profile whilst remaining vigilant for any drunken retards. There were a few of these, and if they were ejected from the ground that's probably because they deserved to be ejected.

A lot of those young lads are clearly underage otherwise they would know that real men can fall down several flights of stairs without spilling a drop

The long batons have a metal end and are signalling sticks. They tap them on the floor in crowds to guide police towards incidents.

Seem abit OTT at half time under concourse.

I saw a couple of confrontations with the police but in fairness some of the fans were acting like arseholes as per, looked to me like the police just weren't putting up with any nonsense on this occasion.
No different to city last season, they let the fans finish throwing beer around at half time then ejected everyone involved as they went back to their seats. Same treatment just handled differently.

This is why I find it so infuriating that there was not similar action by the Police when we played Hannover. No battons, no ejections. Different rules for different fans.

The need to throw beer around and over anyone stood nearby while filming yourself on a mobile phone is a strange one.

I think that they probably use whatever tactics they think best for that specific situation rather than which fans they are.

It's beyond strange but equally so is the fact that some find it acceptable and don't understand when the police get involved.

From my point of view, I'd no problems at all with police or stewards. I know some were getting agitated at the turnstiles given the time it was taken to get in, but that is going to be the norm now at all grounds because of the extra security required.

I don't think Burnley fans are treated any different to any other but just a general inconsistency, and yes why not pick off the ringleaders and arrest them.

I can see both sides here. We've all been knobheads when we were younger - at least I hope we were. So I wouldn't be too harsh on them. Plus if you've been to a few away games, you know what the deal is and which bit to steer clear of.

On the other hand, they shouldn't whine when the police knock it on the head and chuck a few out, that's how you learn there's consequences for acting like a knobhead.

I would suggest they look at the hassle of arresting those offenders, and take the view that ushering them out of town is the easier option. It's called selective application of the law. Smashing wooden seats and using them as potentially lethal missiles should be an arrestable offence.

I agree that it is selective, as it should be. If making a couple of arrests leads to things kicking off big style then it's better to deal with those offenders slow time (they will have captured them on cctv) than wade in with batons flying when it could all get out of hand. If it's safe to deal with it there and then that is the preferred option.

The concourse at away games is now a no go zone after 2.30pm with the children throwing their lager about.

At Hull a couple seasons back, a juvenile buys his bottle of carling for £4 and then throws it against the segregating fence showering a load of people. A few older chaps went over and had a word. The boys went pale and looked like they had soiled themselves.

So you think that it is better to go in and have pitch battles with all those fans from Hanover with the police being hopelessly outnumbered rather than containing them and removing the smaller number of fans who could have been caught in the firing line?? The police got it spot on I thought at the Hannover game. They got our fans out of that stand, ensured the Hannover fans were contained and then announced the abandonment to allow the home fans to leave safely before shifting the Hannover fans out of town.

Absolutely spot on, it reduced the problems, surely reduced the number of injuries that could have been sustained and allowed innocent people to get away safely.

If I go into the mosh pit towards the end of a Courteeners gig at ten thirty in the evening , as I sometimes do, I half expect to get a a shower of beer /**** thrown into the air and over me. If I'm eating a pie and drinking a coke at an away game with my five year old niece at two thirty in the afternoon then I don't really want us to be soaked by a shower of overpriced Carling thrown by some 16 year old Cog Lane chav dressed in his knock off Stone Island jacket.
