Who'd have thought when we spent that £1m on Moore all those years ago that we'd see us spend 15x that in later years?

It crazy how far we've come from where we've been. My nephew is only 3 and is already on his third season in the top league. I had to wait 32 years for my first

ha ha there's plenty more pain to enjoy in these old mags... now what shall we look at next... what was that season when we won all the cup games and got relegated...

Second half of that season was absolutely dreadful - it's hard to believe that a team top of the league could go and win only 27 points from the last 22 games and win only one of nine home games after beating Stockport in December prior to winning the last two.

We just conceded too many goals and when they dried up at the other end the results turned against us.

That must be 1982/3 season. We went out in the Quarter Final of the FA Cup getting hammered by Sheffield Wednesday in a replay, in fact we played replays in 3rd and 5th rounds too and ended up playing 7 games in 4 rounds.
We lost to Liverpool in the two leg Semi Final of the League Cup and they went on to beat Manchester United in the final ----at which I played ----in the Central Band of the Royal Air Force :D

Ho ho so many horror stories to inflict on you from these old mags...
Was it Southend 1 Burnley 0 with Wade Elliott at full back in the days of Steve C and a last minute winner for Southend?

Talking of that Magazine it's well worth joining the London Clarets if only to receive the 6 copies of that excellent publication in my view, details are on the front page of this site under Supporters clubs tab.

Talking of magazines, does anybody remember the magazine that the club published around the mid - late 90s

Everybody I've mentioned it too doesn't seem to recall it but I'm sure I'm not imagining it

Oh dear. Was at that game with my lad as I was working in London that week. Remember a Southend fan sympathizing with us at the station waiting for the train back. I think it was more like a 94th minute winner! How times have changed.

Also seem to recall that day at Main Rd, we were the better side for the first 20/30 minutes?
Not the first time that's happened against City either.
Nicky Weaver kept them in it in the 3rd division once, at the Turf, until it all went pear shaped and, they stuffed us.
