I can't believe it's caused such a fuss. Yes it's a chant that plays on a stereotype of black males, only this stereotype is a positive one. I can't imagine there is a single black male that would be offended by the stereotype of having a massive schlong.

I will call out racism whenever and wherever I see it. But this to me isn't racist. It's daft hand-wringing by Kick It Out.

Look, I don't know. All I know is there is an intelligent debate to be had here but organisations attempting to rule as "definitive" jurors on what is "racist" and what is not are going to fall foul of the nuances of context. That's going to happen here. It already is happening.

Incidentally, Wolves had a very similar chant in the 90s about their goalkeeper Michael Oakes (who apparently had a legendary whopper) and he was white. Was this a racist chant? If not, why not? If not, aren't we discriminating against chanting the same thing to cheer on a black man that would be OK to chant to cheer on a white man?

Perhaps it's actually more racist to make an accusation of the chant being "racist" because it assumes it won't ever be chanted at a white man?

Doesn't always work that way though, someone might not be offended about something that is clearly racist, sexist, homophobic but it can still be any of those things, offence is subjective.

Positive stereotypes around the black male member don't seem to me, to be offensive, but someone else might deem it to be so. Especially a black man. I've yet to hear of any black man that's offended by it though.

Any definition of racism you look at mentions prejudice, exclusion, etc, none of which are present here, and as others have pointed out nobody really worries about positive stereotypes (German efficiency, French being romantics, Italians great lovers, etc.). I think you've got it bang on there.

Kick It Out risk overshadowing all their good work with this silliness. In future their response to actual legitimate examples of racism will be belittled by people saying that they're always just looking to take offence to be PC, using this as their evidence.
