On the barriers above the top walkway.
I used to have the bruises to prove it.

Six or seven steps down from the top walkway, about 15 yards in from the fence. Before that I used to stand on line with both 18yard boxes at both ends, before that behind the goal on the Cricket Field terrace, first on wooden boards then on concrete.

Manure and Leeds both came on the Longside and took it over due to sheer numbers, but Burnley still moved on and held their own

I was a bee holer until I was 12 before my dad let me loose.
The only times I can recall the longside being taken for the all match were Manure and Liverpool.
West ham,Wolves and a few others,my memory escapes me of which fans, kind of took the longside a good hour before kick off.
The Burnley longsiders would then gather on the bee hole till they had enough chaps to go in and kick their heads in.

Of course the Jimmy McIlroy Stand has now replaced it but I suspect the name of the Bee Hole End will live on for a good few years yet.

At which point? I remember regularly starting off mid terrace and ending up near the front when we scored. You certainly didn't end up standing where you started in the Longside!

West Ham was a fair old battle...confusion over colours didnt help...hard to get used to clattering soneone with a claret and blue scarf...we get knocked around a bit before kick off but normal service was resumed by 3pm.

I only remember them coming in once with about 15 mins to go. It was a time before the wall. Both sets of fans could go out by the Cricket field. About 20 of them came in through the back and got a real good hiding.
Before the fence we surrounded Derby etc

From what I hear Leeds in 1974 when there were around 40,000 on pretty much dominated the Longside. Also Man United around the same time, with police forming a barrier around a few hundred Clarets at the bottom of the Longside still wanting to battle for it. Supposedly a bit new in that United fans turned up with screwdrivers and all sorts?

Started off at the front until being brave enough to get in the 'top right' were the atmosphere started.
As a young lad we would get there about 2 o clock and watch the atmosphere build, getting a good spot to see. That was until the pubs kicked out at 5 to 3 and big surges of people coming in sent you 10 rows down.

Half way up the stand, 2/3 of the way along. Usually,as I was a kid, I was resisting swingng from the barrier that was directly next to the main walkway bit as we had our usual spot there

As good as the Longside was I too preferred the Cricket Field end when it was a terrace . Terrific atmosphere and tremendous noise especially when Willie Irvine , Andy Lochhead or Frank Casper scored . They used to rattle on about the Stratford End or the Kop but nothing touched the Turf when it got going

Around mid 70's v West Ham. I used to go on early just after the turnstiles opened. A load of West Ham supporters came into the Longside via the Beehole End and stayed there until they were ejected by the Burnley fans coming on at ten to three. It was a TV game which we won 3-2, although they didn't show the disturbances on telly.

Always 3/4 of the way up near the fence. Loved it.
Would opt for anywhere near the half way line now. It's not the knees but the eyes....

I remember the FA Cup game v West Ham in '68. This was before the fencing went up down the middle of the Longside, so no segregation! West Ham coaches arrived in Burnley about 9 in the morning. It was chaos in the Longside and was certainly not for the feint hearted!

I was at Hillsborough when Burnley arrived early and took the Kop, until the Wednesday fans arrived and then there was a mass exodus to the Lepping Lane end right across the pitch.

Yes I remember that being very hairy, with Sheffield skinheads with docs sprayed silver and gold trying to kick you. I was chased down the back of the kop and jumped over the turnstiles. Luckily they let me in for free at the Leppings Lane end when I explained what had happened.

Mrs Broke never went again after a WetSpam game in the 70s.
We came in through the top of the Longside. Turned left as normal and were assailed by Lancs Constabulary. They were already in situ and the rozzers were keeping us out. One of the Hitler youth gave her a horrendous shove in the back and that was her done with football.

I remember the surges and being crushed onto a barrier. I remember the colourful language, the very funny banter and the projectiles.

In the early 90s a Morecombe Claret always used to come on late in the top right to a flurry of F off Morecombe F off Morecombe. I think he still follows the Clarets

I used to walk on from the top of the beehole about halfway down to the walkway and about halfway to the security fences. There used to be this bald lippy Southern bloke always saying stuff and looking round for an audience afterwards. We once tried to humour him and he went ballistic.

When I was younger, that long ago. Use to stand on the barrier in front of the exit wall near the fence. Then moved forward to a few steps behind the first walkway down. Then later move towards the Bee Hole to where the barriers ran at 90 degrees to the pitch.

The station was at Wadsley Bridge a bit out of town up on a hill most went in a large pub near the station, after a few pints Hilly shouted "we're going trash the place" glasses smashed tables over maybe a window put in. On the way down to the ground Hilly threw a large brick or something through a bus window injuring an old lady, he got nicked and I think the went down for a while. Then we went on the kop and I remember the black lads. On the way back to the station I got split up from my mates and was chased up the hill to the station by a couple of Wednesday lads, good job I was fit then. Near the station I dived into a chippy with a few Clarets queuing up, safe.
