Best left foot

Who do you think has the best left peg, Robbie Brady or David Eyres? Don't think we've seen enough of Robbie yet but his couple of free kicks he's bagged so far certainly had quality all over them. Eyres used to have a wand of a left peg, his whipped in corners under the bar where like guided missiles.

David Eyres was different gravy on far more challenging pitches.

Back when we signed Eyres he was like a dream signing for us. Having seen him at Blackpool. He came into pro football late and I often wondered how high he could have gone had he 'made it' as a pro earlier. Undoubtedly a talented winger. Was a big fan of McMinn too. We were short on talented wide men during my time growing up and those two were cracking players for the level we were at. But it was a different level. So Brady of those two.

ABSOLUTELY - His use of the outside of his foot was pure stroke play!

Trevor Stevens' left foot was better than all of them and his right was better still.

Paul Smith was widely considered to have the best left foot outside the premier league.

One of the best goals from my yoof was Brian O'Neil's left pegger against Manyoo.
If my memory serves me right, he was a natural right footer but dragged the ball through the Turf Moor slutch and hit a screamer from outside of the penalty area.
Boom!

Never saw David Eyres live but Paul Cook, Lee Briscoe, Keith Newton, John Harley and Robby Brady stand out

I thought on Tuesday JBG delivered the better free kick into the area in the first half (the Long chance), than Brady’s efforts in the second. Brady often insists on floating crosses rather than wiping them in.

I'm glad Dazzler mentioned Paul Smith as I figured he'd been forgotten. For a couple of years both Smudge and Weller were our most saleable assets. Smith had a great left peg, but he wasn't quick enough or strong enough in the tackle to make it too much higher. Wasn't he the subject of a £500K West Ham bid around 1996, when £500K was considered decent money?

Do left footed players tend to be left handed? I'm left footed but right handed. Not sure how common that is.

Remember a pre-season friendly at Spotland in the Ternent era. I was standing right behind Paul Smith when he hit in an inch-perfect 40/50 yard cross-field ball with his left. No great back-lift either.
What sticks in my mind most though is the sound it made off his boot. Imagine the connection with the ball to be similar to a golfer knowing immediately when they have hit the perfect drive.
As has been said though rest of his game never consistently hit those levels. Think he could definitely have made it at a higher grade if it wasn't for the injuries though.
If memory serves I think it was Arsenal who were interested in him.
