Burnley Old Boys v Sheffield Utd.

Wallace,Jones :D and Fletcher start. No Boyd. Is he injured?

Hoping for a few goals, a couple of sendings off and some
vicious assaults masquerading as tackles.

Utd by far the better team so far, just look more dangerous in attack.

Boyd hasn't played much football at Sheffield. After 9 games he had made just 3 starts, and one from the bench, but then he picked up an injury in training. He had an op on his shoulder last week.

Any score that makes it more difficult for Leeds to go up has my blessing. Sheff Weds won't go up, but think Sheff U pose a threat.

Wednesdays chairman said they have to go up this year.
They've no chance without Forestsri.
They looked way off the pace and Ross had the sort of hiding game that showed why he's no longer a Claret.

Probably better going over the bridge and then on to Penistone Road.

Brooks released by Man City and given a chance today due to injuries.
Some excellent comments on TalkSport about young players at Premier League clubs never getting a chance and how many potentially could kick start a career in the Championship.

Apparently when asked what he wanted from the youth set up at Spurs, Jaunde Ramos answered 'Do what you like, I have no interest'. An attitude no doubt mirrored by many a Manager in the modern game.

Also mentioned the terrific atmosphere compared with the sanitised and diluted stuff in the Premier League brought about by having a cap on away fans and several thousand tourists in the home support every game.

Speaking of kids in the Premier League.

Any big names that have come straight into the Premier League as kids lately instead of through the lower league loan route?

Rashford is the obvious one but in reality he is now established. I'm sure there are more (not like Rashford) lurking just under the surface that would improve a bottom half club.

Their kit was always like Burnley's, blue for the claret white for the blue. No stripes.

Could you imagine us turning up in stripes? I'm amazed Wednesday changed.

I don't think that's true.
From the early /mid 60s, when I started watching, I always remember Wednesday's kit being similar to ours. (i.e. Blue chest and back, white sleeves), but I believe that for a long part of their early history, up until the 50s they did in fact have blue and white stripes or indeed hoops.
A blue and white striped shirt can probably therefore be regarded as their traditional colours.

Sheffield Wednesday played in blue & white stripes for years and is their traditional kit.

On the subject of ex-Clarets on this thread - no mention of Danny Lafferty who was on the bench for United.

I lived in Sheffield for three years back in the early 1970s just as Wednesday had been relegated and the Steel City derbies were to be played. I always had an allegiance too, so delighted with the result yesterday.

Great match wasn't it.. bit of a throwback feel, like an Old Firm game from the 90s or something.

I know it annoys me does that Zizkov, I've seen some belting games already from the lower leagues this season. Just because it as been branded with the Premier League badge it doesn't mean its going to be a good game. I mean lets be totally honest we are constant proof of that.

You are probably more likely to see better games in the Championship whereas in the PL there's 10-12 clubs who are only bothered about surviving and getting 40 points in what ever fashion they can.
