Some stark reminders of the grim reality of just 14 seasons ago. The appalling financial situation that required the bucket collections seems a million miles away from where we are now.

Maybe we just got lucky......and it is our time right now.

Excellent read. I'd forgotten things were so bad at that time. But i can't believe George Boocock would offer to paint anything for free, no matter how much he loves Burnley!

Never heard of George Boocock but I wish he'd make the offer of a paint job again, because the exterior of the Bob Lord stand is an absolute disgrace. It has more the appearance of a skint non-league club than one earning millions in the Premier League.

I was one of the fans who contributed £1000.

Got a framed shirt with the names of all contributors woven in, my name on a brick just inside the main entrance, and did a lap of honour round the pitch with the other contributors. Felt proud as the fans stood up and applauded.

It's true we do look at the Orient gams but it was nearly curtains then. This club has come so far since Barry Kilby took over

Fairly sure he's still got an advertising board on the Bob Lord. But thinking about it, if you're sat in it, you can't see it! He's a great bloke. Big firm of decorators in Nelson and a big Claret

As bad as things were that season, it produced one of my all-time favourite moments as a Claret.

Being a young lad at the time, most of the off the field stuff was of no concern. However, the trip to Bradford for a real relegation 6-pointer towards the end of March still sticks out. It was unreserved seating so we got there early but approaching kick off time they were moving home supporters out of their end to accommodate the hundreds of Clarets still outside the ground - it really had that 'massive game' feel.

I remember little from the first half other than Robbie scoring a cracker. I think Cadamarteri equalised. I recall Graham Laws was the ref and my Dad always told me how he had a grudge against us (he probably said the same about half the refs in the football league!) so we were incredulous when David May had a goal disallowed for offside.

Bradford were the better team for the second half (I think this was more of an absolute must win for them than us) so they were piling forward. But Ian Moore scored a scrappy header in injury time to nick it. I had never experienced a noise and celebration quite like that one in my life and it really made me realise that it's amazing to be a Claret, even in the times we aren't very good.

(And also currently living abroad I would implore people to enjoy these big occasions we're getting used to now, it's painful to miss out on promotions and beating Champions League sides because you live thousands of miles away!)
