Originally their HQ was in Nelson, but not sure of the current arrangements.

Their custards are to die for.

I live away and one of the things I miss most about home is a trip to Oddies! Steak pies, savory sausage rolls and giant parkin biscuits. You just don't get pie shops like that down south.

I don't think anyone does a vanilla better than Oddie's.

My mum used to clean Mr & Mrs Oddie Senior's house when i was about 6. Early 80's. Massive House near Oaks Hotel somewhere.

School Holidays i had to go with mum on these cleaning jobs. Mrs Oddies house was the greatest. Mrs Oddie would make me a drink stick me in front of the TV oh and i was supplied with an abundence of pastries and cakes. Never knew her first name. Always Mrs Oddie.

Bill's been a stalwart at Belvedere/Calder Vale, for many years especially on the Rugby side.He must be 80 now, and I'm told still visits each shop every week. He's been involved in local Charity work for years and is as pleasant a man as you could wish to meet !! :)

Expensive and the pies aren't really that good, not a patch on Haffners pies and not far off the same money.

Bill was always a very pleasant man. I worked as an apprentice baker when I left school, was interviewed by Bill and the bakery manager, another Bill. His his father Jack was still around back then but very advanced in years. The current manager worked there when I started in 1984 so must have 40 years service give or take. And I know Stevie2112 from my time there and away days in the dark days ofthe mid 80s.

Expensive if you compare it to Greggs in the same way a BMW is expensive if you compare it to a Dacia

My mother who is a nelsoner still talks about Oddies and she left Nelson 75 years ago. She was born on Forest street near Slaters ice cream parlour back in the 20s and both slaters and Oddies still going to this day. Really is a remarkable achievement for both businesses

I pop in a couple of times a week, and agree it's not he cheapest place to buy your lunch, however they do sell extremely tasty sandwiches. Also recently tried one of the breakfast t-cakes, sausage & bacon £2.46 and was very nice.

Shop rent. Business rates. Utilities. Staff wages. Employers NI. Holiday pay. Pension. Refuse collection. Pest control. Production costs. Transport. Packaging. Advertising.

Just a few of the costs associated with running a bakery shop.

These are the prices that I, ME can buy AT, single Items, I would imagine that between the 'smilie' Oddie family they could shave a penny or two off, of that?

No allowance for Premises, Business Rates, Staff costs, Depreciation, VAT, Marketing, and any number of other factors...

Life is full of choices, Diesel, you don't have to visit Oddies... I doubt Bill has waltzed for many a year, and if running a successful business, providing a quality product that people want to buy is a bad thing, then we should all pack up and go home...

Where do you think the money comes from to pay for Roads, NHS, Defence, etc comes from ?? :x :x
