Selling your Spanish holiday home.

Has anyone in recent times sold their Spanish 'place in the sun' and moved the proceeds back to the UK?
If so, how did you go about getting your Euro money out of Spain and into your British sterling bank account? Any suggestions on the best way of dealing with this in order to achieve the best exchange rates and to avoid costs and fees as I am sure a variety of charges lie in wait for the unsuspecting.
Thank you in advance.

If you can afford it, then keep it an a Euro account and wait until the pound's worth about 50 pence before exchanging back.

I have just used Torfx for sending money to Australia, seemed very good, on sending £19000 I saved £369 from what my bank wanted (they say 'we only charge a £4 transfer fee)

I use HiFX as my sender of money from France to England and vice-versa. They are much cheaper than a bank but just as safe. I am in the process of selling my French house and will be using them to send the money back to Britain - when the rate goes down a bit!

We have used HiFX, but more recently we have been getting a better rate at Central FX (cfx), but to do so I have spoken to the manager (Gary Williams) direct on 0044 2072 657975.
Worth giving him a ring when you've got quotes from other companies.

I'm going the other way to Spain in the coming months & will be using a currency house/company who can get a better rate of around 9%, see if it can be done the other way?

Open a bank account offshore with HSBC in Jersey, including a euro account and a sterling account. With the kind of money you’re bringing in you can be a Premier customer. You then don’t need to exchange it, or can do so when it suits you between your two accounts, instantly, at the day’s spot rate.
