Getting the train to Victoria first but where is the best place to get on the Droylesden Tram?

Has anyone any experience of getting back on after the game? Will we get back for the 17.55 train?

It's not that far a walk to the Etihad from Victoria (about 20mins) but the metro goes direct from Victoria anyway.

It's the Ashton-u-Lyne tram you want, goes via Piccadilly Gardens & Piccadilly Station.
The stadium has its own stop, or if you need food before game you could get off at the Asda opposite where there's also a McD

It's in a beautiful part of town.

I'd highly recommend walking!

We got a black cab last time which cost us about £15 between a few of us so not bad at all.

If you fancy a drink in the centre then there is an app on your phone called "Gett" which works similar to uber .... But is for local black cabs. If you download it they usually give you a few quid free credit (or look at their twitter/google for any codes they isue)so you'd probably pay about a tenner for a taxi between whoever is going in your group. (The missus just got a message off them giving her £15 free credit to use by end of month as she hasnt used the app in a while).

Gives you longer to stay in the centre without being on a packed tram and we usually just walk back to the centre after the game.

Last time I went over the pubs in centre got a little iffy around Picadilly or away fans and a few of them made us show ID and became "home fans only" - wasnt really a problem but just a heads up.

Tram is fine both ways but I find it easier in a taxi as it'll end up costing about £3/4 more with less hassle - did that from Picadilly gardens when I went over to watch a random City game.

Just a big queue for a tram back - think it took about 45 mins to get onto a tram. It's all well managed and kept orderly but is quicker and easy enough to walk back if that's an option.

if you're arriving at victoria, just get the tram direct from there as it won't be packed at that stage (it will fill up though).

it'll cost you about 5-6 quid for the 3 of you. shouldn't be more than a tenner in a taxi.

its about 45 mins walk from victoria to the ground which is fine if its not raining. tram queues are huge coming back, loads of people walk it, just follow the crowds back to town.

Ive walked twice from Piccadilly station to the Etihad stadium, it takes around 30 minutes. So from Victoria station, as said above, it will take around 45 minutes.

You can get a tram from Victoria to the Etihad. But unless you leave well before the end of the game don't bother trying to get a tram back to Victoria because as also said above it can take 45 minutes just to get on a tram at the stadium.

If the weather is fine you can walk back and will still catch your train.
If its raining or you dont fancy the walk back to Victoria then after the game you will see lines of buses on the road outside the stadium. You can catch one of those football special buses back to Piccadilly Gardens. Victoria station is just 10 minutes walk from there.

You can do it , did it after last game not much time to spare though
Just leave a bit sooner when our 3rd goes in

I must be a fast walker. Only took me and my mates around 20 mins last time.

Although if it takes 30 minutes for you to walk from Piccadilly you must 'walk' differently...

Alternative, if you don't want to go into the city, is to park at a tram stop between Etihad & Ashton and go in that way. Queues after game nothing like as bad either.

Beware if using tram, I think they close the stations either side of the Etihad after the game.

If you can walk from Victoria station to the Etihad stadium in 20 minutes you shouldn't be watching the game there you should be playing!!

Give it another try when we play em and see if you can beat your personal best. Somehow I doubt it!

According to AA route planner it's 2 miles using the main roads. Looks a few side streets you could cut down to make it a little quicker.

Cutring down the streets and walking back to Picadilly took us about 21 minutes last time - so 20 minutes is a lie.

One thing that's always puzzled me with City.

Why did they call it the Colin Bell Stand and not the Colin Bell End?

because its not an end.
