Richard Scudamore has confirmed that no Premier League game will now be moved to 4pm on Christmas Eve for tv. No commitment as yet on a 1:30 kick off though.

so at the moment that is a small win - they should have made provision for the fact that there would be no Christmas Eve games in the contract and definitely so in all contracts moving forward - it is as much about the logistics of travel in this country on Christmas eve as it is about the day itself

Same must surely apply to Boxing Day, NYE and NYD then.

Still thinking traveling on Christmas Eve is the most difficult of the lot - The country is more geared up for Football on all the other days because everyone plays

Not yet, should have been this Thursday but now delayed until next week for games up to 23rd Dec and the following week for Christmas Eve onwards.

Apart from significant travel problems, Christmas Eve is very much a family day.

I was talking about the logistics of travel.

There are more train and bus services running on Christmas Eve as there are on Boxing Day, NYE and NYD.

And as for Christmas Eve being a family day - it's a full working day for the majority of the population.

I would say boxing day and new years day are more of a family day for people. Christmas eve, night time itself maybe not. But Christmas eve is typically a working day. Boxing day and NYD and for many NYE arent.

Makes sense does this. I start my Christmas shopping on that date.

I'm good with any day, we finish work the day before Xmas eve if it falls on a week day and back to work in the new year.

I realise that many have been commenting on games in general over the holiday period but wodered if I'd missed a change of date somewhere.

Christmas Day is a day not really used by football. As I have said, there has only ever been on Premier League game on Christmas Eve in 25 years. It's a date Burnley haven't played on since 1955.

If you have a problem with Boxing Day fixtures, then maybe take it up with like minded people but this argument is about the television companies trying to move games onto a day when football, as a rule, isn't played. Thankfully, even the Premier League have agreed regarding the 4 p.m. kick off, although I suspect they will still try to include on at 1:30 p.m.

I've posted further up the thread that there is a delay in announcing the games, but I'm told, as yet, our game has not been under consideration.

From about 1900 to the late 1950's Christmas Day was a regular matchday.
Must have been a nightmare for travelling fans.

Can only imagine what CT would be making of a boxing day match if it weren't a thing already.

What do you reckon chances of our games being moved?..........I’ve to book ferries, planes, car and hotels!

And find a good reason to justify it to my other half!

Odeon cinemas have started opening on Xmas day over here at last and that's much more appealing.

Would be great atmos in pub for xmas eve afternoon game. Fair doos if it's a 1.30 kick off. Just get out on the lash a bit earlier.

Just put on a special train for the travelling fans. Ultimately whether or not to go is a choice.

Here's to an xmas eve game ! (Not a full fixture list just 1 big game).

I've no problem with them and didn't suggest that, my comment was just in response to those saying that it wasn't feasible due to travel problems. Public transport isn't too bad on Christmas Eve with most services running at least a Sunday service. On boxing day there's often no transport so it's not a good reason to protest against it.

Looks as though it is a maximum of one now with the confirmation that there won't be a 4 pm game, and that one was expected to be Arsenal v Liverpool. There have been suggestions of West Ham v Newcastle at 1:30, imagine that around the shopping centre there.

Be no different to any other day. Its one of europe biggest shopping centres. Its geared up for it. The stadiums hoste bigger stuff than west hm newcastle.

There was a famous football match on Christmas Eve in 1914. Fortunately they didn't have far to travel to no mans land.

Still the possibility of a 3pm kick off Christmas Eve.

Burnley's last ever game on Christmas Day was a 2-1 home win against Manchester City in 1957. There were BCN corporation buses from Padiham running that day!!

That's your view, clearly not endorsed by some of the leading supporter groups across the country and certainly not endorsed by the clubs who have come out and supported those groups.

Surely the implications for us is are that if Man Utd at Leicester is selected to play Christmas Eve at 1.30, would our game against Utd on Boxing day be moved to the 27th and on TV too?

Now how is staging games on Boxing Day, when there is no train service running, more convenient for travelling fans than staging games on Christmas Eve, when there is a full service running, and then a skeleton service?

I have to admit to being surprise when I saw it was 62 years since we last played on Christmas Eve, one of only two occasions when we have played on this date in post-war football. Back in those days, the two big football days were Christmas Day & Boxing Day although I really couldn't imagine playing on Christmas Day now.

Boxing Day has always been the traditional Christmas game and I don't think anyone would want to see that disappear. Christmas Eve has always been the family day, the final preparations for Christmas Day etc. and has just not been associated with football. Only one Premier League game on the day in 25 years tells that story.

I know we are at home on 23rd December, but I can't imagine many Burnley fans would be happy if it were to be moved to the following day. At last week's Supporters Groups meeting, the opposition to Christmas Eve football was unanimous.

Christmas Eve is a working day, not a family day. There are plenty of posters saying this within this thread.

I think it’s sonething that changed over time.

I might be wrong but growing up I thought shops, supermarkets etc were shut on Christmas Eve, certainly not the case now.
It’s much like any other day.
