Definitely Penalty
Definitely Penalty
Just watched it from several angles, Wood touched the ball first away from Hart, he's then wiped out. Liner and ref missed that one.

I stand corrected then, I thought it wasn't from my view.
Thought Wood was looking for it and dragged his feet onto Hart, also looked to be going away from goal and Hart got a hand on it.
So Atwell got everything erong then..

Re: Definitely Penalty
Seeing as he either let most stuff go or missed it completely that's no surprise at all. He even got the sending off wrong - Carroll clearly leads with his elbow intentionally. Straight red. Hell, he telegraphed it by charging half way across the pitch before jumping in.MACCA wrote:I stand corrected then, I thought it wasn't from my view.

I also thought it would have been soft from JHU, but the replay on sky app shows a definite penalty.

Re: Definitely Penalty
Had a decent view of it from the CFS and to be honest thought Hart had clearly taken the ball.

Re: Definitely Penalty
Either a pen .... Or a goal kick .....
The lino on that side bottled it today big time too - he had no reaction for Defours yellow which had nothing wrong with it.
Hernandez ran out with it and got a throw in - the pen - They took a foul throw there .... Thats all I can remember. Shocking officiating at Prem level.

Re: Definitely Penalty
Up in the middle of the JHU, we thought Wood was lucky not to get booked for diving.
Still, glad that we were wrong but I guess it does show how hard these things are to call

Re: Definitely Penalty
I mentioned it on the match thread. The radio London West Ham commentary team looked it over on the replays and were in disbelief that a penalty wasn’t given.

We sit at the back of the J Mac upper (I know), and initial thoughts were a penalty but then if not, shouldn't Wood gave been booked?
Re: Definitely Penalty
No. In spite of the current refereeing trends, it's still possible to make a fair tackle and the player you're tackling falls over.Juan Tanamera wrote:We sit at the back of the J Mac upper (I know), and initial thoughts were a penalty but then if not, shouldn't Wood gave been booked?

Re: Definitely Penalty
Looked to me from the JMU that Hart got the ball first, although I did wonder if he'd then lifted his arm to make sure that Wood went over. Seems he didn't even touch the ball.

Having seen it in motd, am I the only one who thinks Hart played the ball with his elbow?

Wasn't sure at the time as too far away, but certainly should've been a penalty

clear cut penalty, no excusing the officials for that. Blatant, and it robbed us of two points. Horrendous decision.

I would say the replays on MOTD are pretty conclusive.

Let's not forget that this is the ref who has in the past awarded a goal for a shot that went wide.

Re: Definitely Penalty
SD explained it well post match.
Whilst saying he was a distance away the fact that Hart had withdrawn his arms before he contacted Wood led him to believe it was a pen.
Very professional view but shouldn't the ref be thinking like that?

It was a pen all day. Really bad reffing. Cost us two very important points.

Normally I would say it's too simple to say it cost us two points but the way the game went we would've definitely win had we scored before half time. Shame

Re: Definitely Penalty
Having watched a few slo-mo replays now I think Hart does play it with his elbow but has made contact with Wood a fraction before and at the speed both players were going for the ball there was no way Woody could avoid going to ground.scouseclaret wrote:Having seen it in motd, am I the only one who thinks Hart played the ball with his elbow?
Hart knew what he was doing there and took a bit of a gamble and got away with it unfortunately for us.
Re: Definitely Penalty
Hard for the officials and unless you are certain you should not give it. I think it is impossible for the ref to know who got to the ball first so it is up to the refs assistant. Pleased we didn't behave the way WHU players would have had it been the other way round.

Re: Definitely Penalty
Good view in the cricketfield stand- most of us thought it was a good save/he got there first. Wood moved the ball away looking for contact and keeper got it right. Still to see the reply
Re: Definitely Penalty
The sooner we have instant video replays for penalties and goals the better. Too much diving and poor decisions nowadays that have a massive effect on the game.
The Watford penalty against Arsenal was a another good example yesterday.

Re: Definitely Penalty
Just watched MOTD and as I'm sure what has already been mentioned, the replay shows that Wood nicks the ball a split second before Hart makes contact, so yeah a definite penalty.

After all the crap Hart was getting from the fans, football karma would have probably struck anyway and he'd have saved it.

No, you're not. Hart clearly plays the ball with his elbow. I'm amazed nearly everyone on here is saying it was a pen.scouseclaret wrote:Having seen it in motd, am I the only one who thinks Hart played the ball with his elbow?
Re: Definitely Penalty
There was never a doubt. Even from the top of the Longside it was obvious. Tv conclusive. Hart poor timing. Mistake. Referee did not want to give pen against England keeper. Ref woefully weak.

Re: Definitely Penalty
In the refs defence I assume he thought it wasn't a penalty due to the angle that the ball came off Wood. He must have presumed that Hart got the ball.
From what I saw he did get a touch on the ball but only after he'd clattered Wood out of the way. It was therefore a foul as he brought the player down first so it should have been a penalty
