I am yet to put mine on, owing to nice sunny days. However, getting chillies at night....will I make November without It? (A record)

Anyone else hanging on this year?

Haven't even had the fire on yet, never mind the CH. Ooh. You're hard.

Probably second week in November.

I still have my windows open.

Central heating can only go on in December and January.

Mine's been on a few times, more for the good of the house and/or drying clothes than me though.

Only had it on for 1 evening in Suffolk when we had friends coming round. Normally I’d just put a jumper on.

First frost of Autumn last night in Sunny Rossendale which was the cue for the boiler to pack in

Which reminds me of my favourite joke

Punch-line only...

First man: "Do you know anything about parachutes?"

Second man: "No, do you know anything about gas cookers?"

It's allowed on in this house usually at the end of November but f#ck it's cold at the moment!! So I've relaxed the rule a bit

First time I've allowed it on was last night and this morning for an hour, although I'm sure the Mrs has had it in behind my back.

My house has this very modern thing you may have heard of called a thermostat. Puts the heating on when it's cold and not when it's not, rather than arbitrary concepts of 'hanging on til November' etc.

Why not save all that waffle and just say "my Mrs wears the trousers"
Then we know that your heating has been on since September ;)

She wouldn't be so cold all the time if she wore some trousers

Skantly clad, a great expression when used by a gentleman of a certain age/era.

"I've got belts that cover up more than that"

Can't remember when mine was last switched off - the winter fuel payment has long gone

One of the many benefits of living next door to a cannabis farm, the heating bills are none existent.

One of the pension change issues is that if you are born after 5/8/53 it makes a proportionally large difference. I have to wait till I'm 66 for winter fuel allowance, also I don't get a bus pass till I'm 66 (previously it was 60 I think). I suspect Tony that you just made the age before they changed it!

How can someone know how to spell existent but not know how to spell nonexistent?

That is a rhetorical question. It does not need an answer

My central heating is on 24/7 at the moment. It is our only form of heating.

Winter fuel was a strange one - think I've had that for three years now but the last year I didn't qualify I missed out by a week. You had to be born on or before the 5th January 1952 and my birthday is 12th.

The bus pass qualification date has slowly moved upwards from 60 in line with women's pension. A friend of mine who is exactly a year older got his two months before his 61st birthday, I got mine two months before my 62nd birthday, two years after him.

You've got the dates wrong regarding August 1953 - it's only for those born after 6/10/54 who have to wait until their 66th birthday - someone born on 5th August 53 was entitled to one last July and from 6th August to 5th September 53, entitled to one from next week.

Don't ask me why, but winter fuel allowance and bus passes work on different dates. You are correct with your 5th August 1953 for the WFA.

Yes it’s the 1953 date for the fuel allowance but mine is 26/8/54 so I’ve a longer wait. 2 years for WFA and Pension, but at least I avoided having to be 67.

We are both right, my state pension date is 6/7/20 when I’ll be 65 years 10 months and 5 days old! Make sense of that.

If you lived next door to a cannabis farm they would be tapped into your electricity!

I live in a first floor flat with neighbours above and below and on two sides. I don't have central heating but my neighbours do!

I do have a gas fire in the living room which isn't on at the moment as the sun is shining and warming the room despite it being cold outside. We also had cavity wall insulation installed a few years ago, under a scheme where we got it free, which I reckon makes a difference.

I get my pension in June this year but got notified last year that I was entitled to the Winter Fuel Allowance in November 2017 (if I hadn't been notified I wouldn't have thought to claim it).

What are the running costs compared with central heating, Lancaster?
Heard some very good reports about underfloor heating myself.

Well, we had storage heaters before that and its slightly more expensive than they were! But I reckon that would work out similar to central heating.

But its superb for warming up the whole house.

And you cannot beat getting out of bed in the morning and putting your feet on a warm floor :-)

It's 2018, we're in the UK, and some people have to consider whether they can afford to keep warm in their own homes.

Is that based on this thread? It seems on here that it’s more about saving a quid or two by putting up with a bit of a chill for a week or two more.

I don’t get the turn it on malarkey. Set it to a temperature that is right for you and it’ll come on whene it’s needed. Doesn’t matter if it’s October, July or whenever.

I use heating methods sparingly & get by with thermal clothing mostly, the cold snap I find hot drinks help & moving about more within the house & not sitting idle keeps me warmer.

Winters must fly by in your house

If I can't walk around and relax in my shorts in winter then I turn the heating up.
